I was referred to Katrina by a local hair boutique. To be honest I was relieved because I don't have a personal stylist and I didn't want to deal with a rando Instagram hairstylist. I showed up to my appointment looking a hot mess and couldn't have been met with a more gracious stylist. I stopped going to salons due to the bad attitudes that seems to plague stylists these days so I was more than wary to say the least. We did a trichology/scalp consult, she treated my scalp and then did a cute wash and go. She was very friendly and informative without being overbearing and pushy from start to finish but most importantly it felt like my scalp could finally breathe. I drove 40 minutes from Concord Mills to meet her and I'm very glad I did. Highly recommend!
FIRST TIME CLIENT BEWARE. Review: I would not recommend any of my family members, friends, or associates to Ms. Katrina Bowles. Ms. Bowles is unkind, unprofessional, impolite, and is not well-trained on natural hair. To obtain contextual information, please read about my experience below. First, when you have a new client, it is important to introduce yourself, go over your hair process, and how you will care for their hair. I went to her because her social media boasts that she specializes in scalp and healthy hair. However, she combed my 4c, dry twist out hair from root-to-end with no products. She did not introduced herself. I left the "Treatment Salon" with a massive headache. It felt like someone had ripped through my scalp. Second, when a client states that you're hurting their head twice, you should stop and ask them how they would prefer for you to detangle their hair. I did not feel comfortable proceeding with her washing, conditioning, or styling my hair because she was not willing to listen to my concerns about how she was treating my hair. Third, a hairstylist should adhere to their policies. I have two emails from her that state "our late cancellation/no-show fee is equal to 100% of your scheduled service(s)". I was at her salon for my appointment 20 minutes early. She charged me $75 and I adhered to her policy. I told her that I would pay her for the detangling of my hair, but I was unaware that she would charge me for a cancellation fee. I live near Huntersville and getting my hair done is a self-care practice so I had no intentions on canceling this appointment. I did not expect that my hair was not going to be properly treated . Fourth, her charging me $75 demonstrated her lack of integrity. I told her we should stop this appointment because I don't feel comfortable with her doing my hair but I would pay her for detangling my hair. We walked to the computer and I pulled out my card and she stated, "No, worries. I got you". I stated, "Are you sure? You detangled my hair". She stated, "No, I got you." She knew that she was charging me for the entire process; however, I had no clue until I was driving back home. Ms. Katrina Bowles did not provide kind, professional, or well-trained services. Yet, she states this on her Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages. Lastly, I'm an African American woman with natural hair. I was so hurt and disappointed of how I was treated and how this matter was handled. A salon with an African American hairdresser is supposed to be a safe and nurturing space. I did not experience that with Ms. Katrina Bowles and her salon "Treatment Salon". Experience: I walked into Treatment Salon at 2:10 p.m. Ms. Katrina Bowles, the owner, said "hello" and I responded to her with a hello and stated that I was here for my 2:30 p.m. appointment. She looked at her wristwatch and I chuckled under my mask and stated that I know that I'm a little early. She interrupted and stated that she was finishing up her lunch. I stated, " No worries, I can sit and scroll on my phone". She called me back to the washing bowl around 2:25 p.m. and proceeded to start combing my dry hair from root- to- end. She started working through the left side of my hair and I stated "ouch". She kept combing my hair. I then asked her would she be using the comb on my entire hair. She responded, "Has no one ever comb your hair before a wash to remove shedded hair". I looked back at her and I asked her "Do you mean detangle my hair before washing it". She didn't say anything. I said, "If you mean detangle it, my past hairdressers would finger detangle my hair ". They would not detangle my dry hair with a comb from root-to-end and this hurts." I told her I could help her detangle my twist out if she needed help. I started detangling the right side of my hair and she was still detangling the left side using the comb. She started using her fingers but stopped and started using the comb again. She then came to the right side of my hair and started detangling it with the comb from root-to-end. She then told me that I needed to take my hoodie off for her to wash my hair. I asked her was she also going to put a cape on me and she stated that she doesn't put capes on clients until they get into her chair, she only uses towels, and either way I was going to get wet with a cape. I told her we should stop this appointment because I felt uncomfortable but I would pay her for detangling my hair. We walked to the computer and I pulled out my card and she stated "No worries. I got you". I stated, "Are you sure? You detangled my hair". She stated, "No, I got you". I get in my car to drive back home near Huntersville. At the red light, I receive an email and text message stating that my card had been charged $75. I went back to speak with her about it and she yelled and continued to yell. This was the energy she was using to detangle my hair. I'm reporting this experience and details to Square, my credit union, and the BBB.
Love Treatment Salon Katrina owner of shop is awesome always kind and squeezes me in (I have a busy schedule) so I appreciate her so much!! Hair be on point always! Thank you Treatment Salon!! Thank you Katrina!
Although my hair turned out okay, I will not be going back. The stylist/owner (Katrina) is unprofessional. She is aggressive, boorish, arrogant and lacks decorum. If you want a stylist who listens to you, addresses your concerns and values your time and patronage, you should look elsewhere.
I've been here several times. The stylist is pretty good but is unprofessional. She is hot-tempered, loud- mouthed, argumentative, and unpleasant. I won't be back.
