SUGAR BRAID,LLC in Takoma Park, MD

I stumbled upon this salon on IG in my quest to find a new braiding salon. I went to the Georgia Avenue location on a Friday morning. The staff greeted me as soon as I walked in. The gentleman prepared me for my wash as the young lady was finishing up with a client. When I was taken to the back I was advised that the hot water wasn't working. The manager/owner improvised and filled a pitcher with hot water. She proceeded to wash my hair alternating between the cold and hot water being sure not to burn me. However, the water kept getting in my face so she put a towel to cover my face without any warning. I just kind of laughed it off. I showed the stylist a picture of the color combination I wanted for my French curl braids. I requested a 1B/30/27 mix. She said she didn't have the combo and showed me an auburn mix. I said that would be fine. I would just do that. She said they could add some blonde to it #27. I told her no. That I would be fine with the auburn. It was already ombré and consisted of 3 colors. Lo and behold the manager advised the braider to add blonde. It looks horrible. The parts for the braids were neat but the braids and the color turned out awful. If I wasn't going out of town for my bday the next day I would have removed the braids. I sprayed the braids with brown spray to cover the blonde. I also was under the impression the medium French curls were $190. I paid a $30 or $40 deposit and then had to pay an additional $235 when the service was completed. The work was not worth it. I would have requested another style if I would've known the cost upfront. I have so many fly aways coming out the braids. They didn't use moose at the end. The person who did my hair didn't speak English and came across as a braider in training. I will not be back and would not recommend.

They're able to accommodate short-notice appointments, are relatively quick, friendly, professional and do great work!

I've gotten large and medium knotless box braids here multiple times. I prefer to get my hair done by the owner Gaelle. My braids still look good when others do it but the size is sometimes inconsistent. They do a great job of blending different hair colors together upon request

Sugar braids guise themselves in healthy natural braid experts but truthfully they aren't. Most of the braiders themselves do not have healthy hair. I came in asking if they could do a specific hair braiding technique which would allow for a easy hair removal, you would literally just pull the braid out. I allowed them to do this to my hair because the owner assured me that she and her braiders knew what they were doing... she lied. My natural hair prior to coming to her shop was very very healthy. After the braid removal process I lost so much hair. These people are simply braiders not cosmetologist so they don't really understand hair health etc. I would say if you are looking to grow out your hair don't choose them. Go to braiders but preferably hair stylist whose own hair reflects their healthy hair techniques.

I am surprised by the bad reviews. I came for knotless based on a recommendation. The owner is really nice and personable. You can add wash and blow dry to your service, which I did. The originally did them too long and had to trim them. They still are a little longer than I wanted them but I love my hair overall. They look neat.
