Street Gypsy in Nashville, TN

I always love leaving a positive review for a small business, and from the majority of the reviews posted about Street Gypsy, I had very high hopes for my inaugural visit this past weekend.
Unfortunately, the reality of my experience on Saturday evening was nothing less than shocking compared to all the goodness on Yelp.

My appointment was scheduled with Niko, who I immediately took a liking to; he's just an angel on earth. Kind and warm and a beautiful spirit. He immediately made me & my daughter feel welcome on what was the first night of our little girls' getaway.
After he washed my hair, we got situated at his station and that's when the trouble began.

Roegan, his "soul sister" and the owner of the establishment, immediately began making snide comments about my naturally long, blonde hair. For a quick frame of reference, I've always had my hair professionally cared for, as any mildly intelligent woman with long, blonde hair would do, as it takes special attention to maintain. From across the room, in front of her customer, my daughter, Niko, and the whole world, she asked me if my hair had box color on it (the HORROR), which it CLEARLY doesn't, as it's still thick and healthy, and not blotchy at all. I was immediately confused and uncomfortable by the assumption, but tried to play it off, answer in the negative, and stay gracious. Maybe I just misunderstood her? She then went on to comment further on my hair, again in a sly snide way that clearly said "if I didn't do it, it isn't that great". Further on to comment that they aren't booked very often for blowouts because there are so many blowout bars in Nashville, and they were surprised by my booking them.

Even my fourteen year old daughter commented to me upon leaving that Roegan sure had a lot of opinions.

I had to wonder why Street Gypsy allowed the booking at all, until at the end of the evening, I received my bill. I was charged TWENTY EXTRA DOLLARS on top of the standard $50 for "iron work" which meant that Niko used a curling iron. For a blow out. Um, yeah? You think? It's a blowout...

Honestly, it was just insult to injury at that point.

It's clear from the reviews that Roegan's specialty is fixing other stylists' mistakes and she made no bones about it while loudly pronouncing how many awful stylists there were in Nashville.

I don't expect this salon to care at all, but hopefully this is a warning to other Yelpers looking to this salon for a blowout, or just a relaxing experience. Needless to say, I had major anxiety upon leaving.

I've been going to see Patti now for over a year and I love this place dearly! No matter how short-notice, Patti can squeeze me in for a touch-up or trim within a matter of days, unlike some other salons in town. Patti is a color wizard and has given me some of the best hair cuts I've had in my life (the kind of cuts that look good at any point while they're growing out!!). I look forward to each visit!

Love the Salon! A clean and comfortable salon that's not huge and impersonal. I followed Ashley from Vegas and look forward to flying into Nashville to go to this salon! Ashley is a amazing stylist who really takes her time to understand what you want and has no problem doing fun hair( my 10 yr old loves the wild color mermaid hair) and she nails it Everytime! I'm big on honesty and she gets it. She always steers me from committing hair suicide and helps me fix the hair nightmares I've endured. Highly recommend this salon!!!

Let me start out by pointing out that I am REALLY picky when it comes to stylist. I haven't always had the best of luck with stylists coloring my hair . I cannot say enough good things about Ashley. I explained to her what I wanted and showed her some photos of ideas I had for cuts and she delivered exactly what I was looking for. In the past I have had issues with my hair being " difficult" and not wanting to lift, but she worked her magic and the results were amazing . Whenever you go to a new salon it's always awkward because you don't know each other , but with Ashley I felt like we had known each other for years . It was great meeting her and I will definitely be coming back to her and sending friends her way . Very sweet girl and did an amazing job on my color .

I've been debating writing this review because I really enjoyed meeting the people that work at Street Gypsy and I never do this but I was there for almost 6 hours one night a couple of weeks ago. Ashley did my hair and had some issues with getting the color right/ to change at all. I was not drastically changing my hair in anyway just touching up roots and changing the dark part of it to a touch darker. I got there at 4:30 and left at about 10:15. At the end of it there was no discount even due to the time it took and that my hair had a patch of color that was noticeably different. There was no way I was going to go back to get it fixed because I couldn't spare that much time again. The owner is super sweet and seems to have been doing it for a long time I just think the others might need some additional training.
