Salon 71 in Minneapolis, MN

Great friendly atmosphere in a great location right above Bruggers in Edina and directly across from the new Lunds & Byerlys on France Avenue. I go to Terese Asher Adams. She is great- she also teaching hair cutting and coloring. She is excellent at color helping me keep the true color of my red hair as it started to go gray. Not an easy feat and I love the color.

Tom has been cutting my hair for over 30 years and he is the best in the world! He is kind and professional and an expert. He was trained by Horst and gets yearly refreshers in Europe. Rick recently did highlights for my daughter and she loves the tag team combination of Tom and Rick! Can't recommend them highly enough!! I have also had fabulous mini-pedis there and loved them.

Choosing a hairdresser is probably more important than choosing a car: you could be with that hairdresser for longer if they are any good and I don't want to even think about how much we pay them over a lifetime! That said, Salon 71 is a medium-sized upscale "chair rental" hair and nail salon just above Bruegger's of France Ave in Edina. It has more of a "no nonsense" feel of it than many other salons of similar quality. I think this is probably because it is a chair rental place and the hairstylists would rather pocket their cash than invest a bunch of money into making clients feel pampered with candles and mood lighting. The interior is several shades of beige and somewhat drab, but it has great windows over looking France Ave, is very conveniently located, and has a great magazine selection. Personally, I go to salons for the haircut and not to pay for the overhead, so I like that it isn't super fancy. I also LOVE that they don't push product on you, as many hair stylists at the larger salons (like Juut) must meet minimum sales for product (lame). I can't comment on the other hairdressers, but I like mine, who I followed to Salon 71 several years ago after she quit her gig in Uptown. Services there include hair, nails, and wigs. No, they don't accept CC so dust off your checkbook...you gotta use that bad boy for something, right!?

I was in desperate need of a hair mini-makeover. I made an appointment this past week at Salon 71. The women on the phone was nice but I should have guessed something was very different about this place when I called. Ever other sentence I was put on hold and finally made a reservation after 10 mins. Prices online looked good and after I estimated my costs I figured I would actually be saving money as they are a bit cheaper than other places in town. When I made the reservation they said that they do not accept credit cards. Ok - no big deal it saves lots of $$ in fees. When I arrived it was really empty and not very "Salon" like. Drab colors, nice windows of France Ave & Lunds parking lot but didn't feel very welcoming. (Maybe I"m just spoiled from Juut and other places I"ve been.) They do serve water and coffee but in Styrofoam cups. (I'm against Styrofoam when there are plenty of other cups/glasswares that are much safer for the environment.) My stylist (Jordan) was very nice and did a great job with my color & cut. When I was done my cost went up because "she had to do so much work back to back & needed more dye". (Side note- It was a trim of 1 inch and a full highlight. Which is what I booked for!!! Plus she never ran out of dye in the first place.) So I go to write a my check to pay and the check was made out to my stylist who's real name is Heidi?!? not Jordan. I left happy but with a bigger dent in my wallet than I had planned on. Not to sure if I will go back.
