Oya Salon in Monterey, CA

My appointment with Char was nothing short of fantastic. With having curly hair, I told her I've never had a cut or color I've ever been happy with, but she took that as a challenge and exceeded expectations! Char knew exactly what I needed, and on top of that, coupled my appointment with great conversation and tips and tricks. She even took the time to send me products and follow up after my appointment. I highly recommend visiting Char, you will not be disappointed!

My long hair got butchered! I had waist long hair and the assistant to the owner Bode, Dallie, she cut my hair practically shoulder length!!! It was completely uneven, and she even blow dry my hair and decided to cut it again because she couldn't get it even. She didn't cut straight to began with!!! She fumbled endless trying to section my hair, got her comb stuck and wrapped with my hair. There is no way she could have passed her beauty school!!! I paid the $83 and cried in my car! This salon used to be great! I can't believe they hired someone who should not be cutting hair! She didn't measure properly and didn't use a clean comb when she drop her comb on the floor. I know I should have said something, but I wanted to be polite and give her a chance. (She literally picked the comb, put it in her drawer under her wallet, than push the comb under her wallet to appear like she was getting a clean comb. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to embarrass her.) I have straight, waist long hair, no hairstylist ever had a hard time cutting my hair. I wish Johnny was still there, or even the the really young girl. But I guess the good ones left. I ended going to Great Clips to get my hair fixed! All the hairstylist there saw all the mess-ups and unevenness she made on my straight hair!!! To Bode I never experienced a bad hair cut with you, but your assistant, Dallie, should not be cutting hair at all!

They do such a fantastic job here, when I make my appointment; I never have to wait. I cannot remember her name ; but the trim and touch up for my shade of blonde is spot on. I have switched my hairstylist to this salon since they do such a consistent great job!

I recently had my hair cut by Dallie Hix at Oya Salon. The whole experience was lovely. The environment is elegant yet friendly. All of the staff are warm and welcoming. Dallie did a great job and Brian supported her through the process. I look forward to returning in the near future!

While living in Monterey a few years ago and as I was getting my hair cut and color in a nearby rather nice salon , I overheard that Oya was a great salon. I decided to walk in one day to check it out. Brian , who happens to be the proprietor, was at the front and greeted me. After a pleasing impromptu consultation, he fit me in around his morning appointments. Brian outstandingly cut my rather difficult straight and thick hair which disappointingly Is usually beyond the capability of many stylists. He completely highlighted my transitioning to mostly grey hair to lovely, realistic and warmer tones subtlety blended which minimized the heretofore dreadful harsh distinction of grey roots as they appeared as he had promised. Not sure exactly how he managed all of it and tied it all together, but his talent/technique allows for a far more gentle appearance of roots making it so much easier to maintain the color continuity needed when you lose your natural color. All this was accomplished quite expertly and efficiently and I walked out of Oya that first day with a gorgeous cut and color. Problems solved. I have consistently enjoyed the absolutely spectacular hair cut every single time. Rare to find. I have moved from Monterey and still , a few years later, continue to make the the drive up to Monterey from San Luis Obispo for my hair services as it is well worth the time and effort. Always a pleasure to be in this pleasant and professional salon. Everybody i have been in contact with always gives great effort toward the experience. A couple times a friend accompanied me on drive and after consulting with Brian and being directed to a selected stylist left extremely pleased.
