Oluchi African Hair Braiding in Detroit, MI

I had the worst experience here!!! my braids was not the same size and I also had gaps throughout. After 1 week my braids was frizzed up it looked I had my braids for 2 months. There were several children there playing and running around the shop. The bathroom is in the basement which was creepy and reeked of sewage. The staff was unprofessional and the shop was not clean. Go to Dakar African Braiding shop on 6 mile & Evergreen.

The website is very, very misleading. They didn't honor my appointment or price stated on the website. They also had a coupon which they didn't honor. Overall, I won't be going back. My hair was done beautifully though. If I do return I'll have to bring my lawyer. LOL!

Never would return to them they charge me 180 for box braids bra length and the hair goes just below my neck. The shop was extremely hot. I will not ever go there again. The lady that did my hair did not do it like I requested and I was over charged considering they was supposing to be running a special. I wanted the small box braids and they did the medium. Buyer beware.

Oluchi's has been running a box braid special on Groupon. I purchased one and called a few months later to schedule. I notified the owner that I had a voucher up front and made an appointment. I arrived at the scheduled time to find 4 braiders working on 2 heads and they didn't even know I was coming. They then told me they were not going to honor the Groupon because they would not get paid. The woman stated that Groupon takes 1/2 of the $120 paid, so they wouldn't get anything. My options: they could call the owner to braid my hair if she was not sick, but they weren't doing it. It became an elaborate explanation as to why it wasn't fair to them. They gave me the option to pay them in cash and then request a refund from Groupon. This was while there was no braider there to do my hair as they all were working on two customers. Braiding takes many hours, so waiting for 1 person to do it didn't make sense especially after they stated the young lady was sick. I took a day off work to get my hair braided and left Oluchi's upset. I refused to pay cash and then called Groupon. Groupon gave me a refund and said that would follow up with the owner regarding refusal to honor voucher. My thing is the owner should have told me upfront. So, I called her about this. It wasn't going to change anything, but I wanted her to know that what she did was wrong. It's bad business to bait and switch customers. Now I have talked to someone else and they had the same issue. They should have not ran a promotion if they were not going to honor it, could have only offered a limited quantity or shut it down all together. The end results are beautiful, but the service was not. There are so many braid shops in the Detroit area that customer service is what sets them apart. Sadly, this one failed at that.

They advertise on Groupon and wanted to give them a try. I have learned to call before I purchase from local businesses because often times they don't honor their own groupon. This was no different. Many of the African Braiding salons offer 24 hour service, not here. It was after 10 pm when i called, and the first thing she said was it was too late to call. I asked about the groupon and she wanted to know if I purchased it yet and said not to because its better for her if I just pay in the salon. I also mentioned that a coupon was being offered and she gave me a disortation on market values and advertising prices and so on. When she finished i asked what all of that meant. She said she was going to call groupon and would not honor the price advertised. Based on the short phone conversation, there is NO WAY i would feel comfortable being serviced here. Basically a bait and switch.
