Michael's Hair Salon of South Charleston in Charleston, WV

I called to make an appointment ASAP. Michael himself offered me an appointment later that day at his Quarrier location. Michael expertly cut my hair and goatee while sharing his life story and barber tips. I enjoyed the conversation. I highly recommend Michael and Michael's Hair Studio.

My experience was a disaster to say the least. As I walked into the salon Michael was drinking liquor with another customer... he continued to do this through out my appointment. I didn't want my hair cut but he insisted, didn't put any products on my hair after washing it, and well the pictures speak for themselves regarding the color job. I had asked for heavy highlights all over my head (which I usually get from a different salon) because my roots were growing out. It didn't end well but I did get a refund. I'm not quite cute how he has a cosmetology license. Michael was a great person just horrible at dying hair.

I had moved to Charleston some time ago from another state where I had taken for granted having access to very advanced and technical stylists. After four years here in WV, I was still having trouble finding a stylist that can cut technical and fashion-forward hair.

Then I met Michael.

Michael looks like a combination of Edward Scissorhands with a waistcoat and some steampunk vibes going on. His energy can be described as lively and friendly and you immediately know, this guy knows what he is doing and he is an artist! He has multiple locations, and I sat in an antique barber chair on the Quarrier St. location.

I had wanted a modern shag cut with a specific fringe and had a picture. He knew exactly how to make it happen and watching him cut hair is nothing short of magic! As he made his way around my head, cutting, swishing and thinning, I could tell he was sculpting something good out of something drab. ( He even had me turn my head upside down for him to balance the cut!)  I have to mention he has his OWN private label hair products and they smell AMAZING. (I recommend the honey shampoo/conditioner)

I couldn't be happier with my hair, and that is no easy feat as I am a picky little brat. Charleston is lucky to have him for those of us who want rock-star hair, or a precision pixie he is the guy! This man is a trained Barber/ Stylist combo, so when you find that, you better not let go. He has trained in London and LA and it shows. His haircuts feel tailored just for you.

I left today feeling cute, like Joan Jett mixed with a little Carol Brady.

I had a 4pm appointment. I get there early and he doesn't show up until 4:15 and there are two other people there waiting that also had a 4pm appointment....when it's a one chair salon  one guy left, the other one and I stayed. He didn't even ask me what time my appointment was for, he just automatically told the other guy to have a seat. I just walked out. How do you run a business that way? First being late and then scheduling three people at the same time and forgetting about it. He didn't apologize or try to make it right. Never again

Michael is everything a barber and hairdresser should be! Knowledge, friendly, and talented! He takes his time to work with you and give you an amazing cut! Best hair cutting experience I've ever had. Highly recommend!
