Disappointing --- the cut did not resemble the picture I showed him at all. Also, took a very long time for the cut. He charges a bit more than other salons, so I thought maybe I'd get a better cut. Sad that wasn't the case.
Michael knows how to cut hair! Specifically my hair which is curly. I have been coming here since he opened so 1 1/2 years. I like the way he styles it so that it curls on it's own with just wash and wear. The shop is handy, the tunes are cool. Michael is accommodating in terms of scheduling! You can tell him what you want and he cuts it that way.
How do you build a business in a hidden location with no advertising? Giving great haircuts and waiting for people to spread the word seems to be working for Michael. He uses traditional scissors and an understanding of how the hair lays to achieve results. Other places I had tried in town relied on electric clippers and left me feeling like I had had my head mowed.
Got a haircut from Michael and he knows what he is doing. I knew it when he used a pair of blunt scissors for my straight Asian hair to create texture. He seemed meticulous and took his time to cut my hair. However, I have to dock 1 star for 2 reasons. One, a friend of his started to hang out in the shop which caused him to get distracted (cardinal rule: the customer is always first). Two, he didn't give me a straight razor shave afterwards (which I forgot to mention then) even though it was listed online that it is included in the $20 men's haircut. All in all, it is still be best haircut I've had in Ithaca.
