Mane Tamer Calico Palace in Colfax, CA

Went for first pedi here and was so disappointed I will never return and want to warn others. Not a real chair to sit on. A bench up against a wall with a bunch of pilllows. Who know how clean they are. A home manicure bucket to put feet in. Then hyperextend your legs to put on her knee!! No bench for a lil comfy bend in your knee to put your feet on like I've ALWAYS had everywhere else. Then she cut the end of one big toe with big clippers........ yup. Put a dirty towel on it to sop up blood. I asked for alcohol and cotton to clean it with. NO callus sanding or anything to bottom of feet or heels which I've also had everywhere I've been before. No massage. Then a less than par paint job. On skin. Not all the way to end of couple toes. Sigh. Bad experience. Then she asked for $30.00!!!!!!!!!! Wow. I said I was surprised she'd charge me that to begin with for that lil "pedi" but even moreso cause she cut me!!!!!! Reduced price to $25. What a deal. I'd go somewhere else next time for a real good pedicure.

It's been years since Beth cut my hair when she worked at the Hair Razor, but I still remember every haircut was perfect.

Every 5 weeks my friends and I meet with Beth and Cheryl for complete makeovers. There are 4 of us and each travels appx 1.5 hrs to arrive at the Mane Tamer. Pam, Marion and Jan have been with Beth for years. I started appx 10 years ago just to visit with my friends while they got pampered. I just started out with pedicures with Cheryl and then thought since I was there I would get my hair done. I haven't been sorry one time. Cheryl, Beth, Lori and Jenny are like family. I love this place and the shopping is to die for. The best was last November the staff acted as my post wedding party. We all had a great time. I would recommend all my friends to drive the distance to get a professional treatment. You will not be sorry.

Located in the foothills, this rustic shop inside the old fruit exchange building in Colfax has personality with up to date hair styling. I have been a faithful customer at the Mane Tamer for over 20 years making my appointments every 5-6 weeks. It wasn't too long after going to see Beth in the early 1990's that I could just walk in and say, with confidence, "Whatever cut you want to do or color...feel free". I have never been disappointed. Beth cuts my hair for my lifestyle, I ride a motorcycle and always get compliments on my hair after removing my helmet. At the Mane Tamer, you don't feel like a customer, you feel like family. And while you are waiting, there are plenty of items for sale, from local artists, to look at or purchase.

I have been going to see Beth since I was 10 years old. Gulp...that was 20+ years ago! I have since moved from the area and now reside in Sacramento. I STILL drive up to see her every 4-6 weeks for my cut. That should say something. The shop is charming and they carry several hair and beauty products. What I love most about it is that they sell local artists' products. Plus it is ALL fabulous stuff! All of the staff is friendly and very accommodating.
