Joy hair braiding in Wilmington, DE

Ladies...DO NOT go to Joy Hair Braiding at 507 N. Van Buren Street.   The owner, Vivian, is RUUUDE, unprofessional, and even worse - a thief. She gave me a quote for shoulder length box braids over the phone and then sent me her CashApp for an appointment deposit, which I paid like a dummy.   Once I arrived at my appointment, she upped the quoted price by $40. Straight up bait and switch. I refused to pay it and asked for my deposit back then she started arguing with me like I did something wrong.  She would not, and has not, given me my deposit back.  She got $51 richer without even looking at a comb.  That's on me.  I don't know anybody who's been to her, and I should've paid attention to another reviewer who just gave a 1-star review because of her horrible experience.  There are plenty of other braiders in and around the city that don't ask for money until they're halfway done and you can see what kind of job they're doing.  From one sister to another, you've been warned.

RUN! I booked a hair appointment 3pm on Friday, June 17, 2022 for medium box braids. I was there for 11 HOURS for medium box braids. Vivian is by far UNPROFESSIONAL and rude she told me to send her a $41 deposit when I arrived the energy was off already she seem like she had an attitude and i still gave her a chance. I rang the front doorbell and she came out from the side and said that I was supposed to come around to the side door.....LIKE HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW THAT you never gave me instructions.

When I arrive inside the house it was very hot and two broken Beauty salon chairs were in the living room. I'm from BROOKLYN NY, So I've seen worse and let her start the back row and then had a girl finish my hair WHICH WAS BY FAR WRONG. I MADE A APPOINTMENT WITH VIVIAN NOT THIS YOUNG LADY. VIVIAN stated that she was leaving and then stated "EXCUSE ME CAN YOU PLEASE PAY ME" At first I really didn't wanna give her my money because who asks for the rest of the balance and they haven't even finished the service. Again I didn't want any drama because I have respect for ppl and the girl braided really fast so i was like fuck it. I proceeded to pay i stated to VIVIAN i would be sending the money through Zelle. VIVIAN seemed frustrated once I stated THAT. I should of LEFT but I still gave them a chance being black and THE GIRL WAS REALLY NICE. Vivian took my payment though Zelle then LEFT.

I let the girl proceed to do my hair a bout 7 minutes when she got to the middle of my head and I stated to her that I wanted a middle part being that they were box braids VIVIAN arrived BACK AROUND 4ish. BOTH WOMEN started talking in their language and VIVIAN stated to me that I should've told the girl sooner I was so confused because the girl was still at the back of my head so it was ample time to give me a middle part. AND THEN AGAIN VIVIAN LEFT.

I ended up falling asleep and waking up at 9pm AND MY HAIR WAS STILL BEING BRAIDED. VIVIAN CAME BACK and kept complaining that SHE was tired THEN LAID ON THE COUCH WITH A PILLOW COVERING HER HEAD AND WENT TO SLEEP. SHE DIDN'T EVEN HELP THE GIRL UNTIL IT WAS TIME TO FINISH BRAIDING THE TOP BRAIDS TO THE END. VIVIAN STILL COMPLAINED WHILE DOING MY HAIR. SHE STOP HELPING THE GIRL LAID OUT AGAIN AND WENT TO SLEEP. I FINALLY ENDED UP LEAVING THE HOUSE AT 1:45am I was there for 11 hours.

But that's not even the icing on the cake I was so tired it was dark and I had to go all the way back to Newark Delaware. I ran out of there when I arrive back to my room I looked in the mirror and I was horrified and in pain I couldn't believe she did me like that

I called VIVIAN the next day and told her I asked for medium box braids im in pain and not satisfied. she started yelling on the phone stating that these are Delaware box braids this is the style down here, I couldn't believe this was her response. I hung up on her and decided to chalk it up as a loss and proceeded to take my hair out because i was in so much pain.

she text me back apologizing stating that I could come in on Sunday at 10am to redo the top. I stated ok and that I'd come back. On this day I was running a little behind schedule due to certain road areas being cut off. BUT I called VIVIAN to let her know that I would be arriving 20 minutes late when I arrived in her area and found a park. I received a phone call from VIVIAN she stated to me it's 10:23am where are you. i try to state to her that the gps took me a different route and I WOULD HAVE ended up here at at 11:00 am but before i could say I WAS OUTSIDE she started yelling at me saying i could not come at 11AM (total misunderstanding) the girl is waiting and had to go. I proceeded to tell her on the phone that she was wrong once she heard that she started cursing me out on the phone screaming and yelling and I couldn't get a word in. I was so over it I just hung up. BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE

I'm shocked and most of all in pain but Karma is real she really could have handle the situation better
