John lost control of his scissors and snipped a 3-inch bit of my bangs, which hangs separately from my long hair, grown out over the span of 10 years. I called the salon and cancelled my upcoming appointment, citing John's mistake as the reason I won't have my hair done again. The young woman who works there was very kind and professional in hearing my complaint, but John called back yelling at me minutes later, telling me that I am a "psycho" and never to come back to his shop. This is the sole reason I am writing this review. John's behavior was erratic and worrisome, and I say this having known him many years ago as my main hair dresser. I would not patronize this business again.

I recently tried this salon on a whim and was deeply unsatisfied. From the moment I walked in, John (the owner), was rude and quite honestly mean towards me. I sat down in his chair and he immediately told me that my hair was flat on the top of my head and then followed this with, "do you agree?" This continued throughout my haircut - an insult followed by, "do you agree?" It was bizarre and he seemed extremely insecure the entire time. He acted as though he was doing me a favor each time he snipped a piece of my hair. He would make one cut and say, "see it looks so much better already," implying like I looked bad or less than when I first got there. He answered his phone several times during the haircut and as his buddies were walking in and out of the salon, I heard John make a racial slur. He then sent me over to someone else so they can dry my hair and told the stylist how to style my hair, without even asking me. She, thankfully, asked me how I wanted my hair styled and it was the complete opposite of what John had told her to do. Then, to top everything off, I paid for my haircut (that isn't even anything nice) and asked to speak to him. I told him very politely and respectfully that he offended me due to the racial slur he made and he began yelling at me, in front of other customers and his staff, to leave the store and to never come back. The girl at the front desk seemed embarrassed and apologized to me under her breath. I will never go back here and I will never recommend this place. PS my haircut sucks!

After I relocated to Utica, I went through a slew of bad hairdressers before finding John Latini. I won gift certificates through a silent raffle and decided to give his salon a try. I'm so glad I did! The atmosphere is warm and inviting with a welcoming staff, and John knows exactly how to make my hair lay the right way. He's quick and efficient, and provides great conversation. I can go to him with ideas and he will make them work around what is best for me. He's not shy about asking if I want to part my hair to the right instead of the left, or telling me if I cut my bangs any shorter I'll look like a "goofball." I love his humor and straightforwardness. Instead of rocking a bad 'do because the hairstylist is too complacent to question if something will look right, I get to have a beautiful style because John asks questions and knows how a great haircut should look. I get so many compliments on my cut every time John touches my hair! The best stylist I've found in the Utica area.

Not satisfied at all! The owner talked way too much while cutting my hair making me wonder how he can focus on his work and is very distracting; he also did not pay attention when I said "please don't cut much - 1 inch max". He cut way too much of my curly hair as he decided I need bangs and it needs to be 'shorter in the front' (4 inches chop chop). That resulted in me having bushels that are "standing up" now. I can only tame them by pinning them down until they have grown out over the next 4 -6 months. He also cut the under layers of my hair too short so the top layers hang over now (uneven). For somebody that claims to be a specialist with curly hair - he did a horrible job. He needs to listen to his customers better, pay attention to what he does and recognize that no curly head is the same. ...and dont charge me $25 for shampooing my hair without telling me it is that much. My wedding is in 6 weeks and I wanted to treat myself to a great hair cut and color. Not only can I forget about the hair do I wanted for my wedding as my hair is too short now (in places), but I am also $200 out. I am devastated! NOT worth it.
