Gene Juarez in Lynnwood, WA

I have been getting my hair cut and styled here since i was like 13! I always see Charise T. who is super duper talented and the kindest soul. I love her positive energy and candor when we casually chat while she beautifies my hair :) the vibes here are always immaculate for me. I like being able to drink hot tea while getting my hair done. They also have a manicure and waxing service too that I have been wanting to try out. I have heard great things about the nail service! For those who have not been to Gene Juarez for a haircut, i recommend you read through a bunch of these yelp reviews to get an idea for who (which stylist) to see or not to see. Because there are some great hair stylist here and maybe some mediocre ones in other people's opinion. Charise T. has always cut my hair to look exactly how I want it and she makes me feel confident in the styling she does to my hair so I recommend seeing her! My sister and my mom also prefer her ;)

I am so sad to write this review of a once highly regarded establishment. I have been coming to this company for 10 years - not exclusively. I grew up in Seattle and couldn't wait for the day I could afford to come here for a haircut! In fact, the wonderful person who cuts my hair was trained by Gene Juarez. Her haircuts are out of this world amazing! I found her after graduation working at an Aveda salon in north Everett so I assumed it was just location as GJ wasn't in Snohomish county at the time. We all gravitate as people to what best suits our needs, right!? Funny enough, she was the most popular staffer and was tough to book in with. I found a guy across the street who was also GJ trained and his haircuts were equally high quality. Both cut my straight hair like it was meant to be. Cue my first haircut appointment at GJ. It left me wanting more and not happy. I tried the northgate location, and lynnwood early in my GJ journey. To no avail, the cuts were all not great. The price was also a lot higher and the staff was so rushed. I decided GJ cuts were not for me in this current time and chalked it up to new ways of training, lack of experience, and decided not to have them there anymore. One of the cuts was Uber expensive too, and I was actually mad about it but it's a subjective experience and I knew I wouldn't get a refund and did not want to go back in the future so I let it go. Now, you can't beat getting your nails done here. They are actually sanitary and use health precautions, including single use files and sealed sanitized equipment. Do come here for an expensive but safe experience when you need your nails done. Highlights: I started going to northgate for highlights. I like the gal but when Covid hit, GJ had to close up for a long time. I decided to grow out my highlights and really care for my hair so I could go back in a year later with healthier hair to work with. It turned into two years and GJ ended up closing that location. I came to lynnwood and the quality wasn't there. I felt like we had a very short appointment and the beautician even laughed saying she does several clients a day after I told her about another place where they go so slow. She was rushing so much she didn't check my bleach in the front where it always takes longer, and she never checked on me. She just plopped the foils, left and grabbed me when it was time to rinse. I told her I didn't want too much highlight and showed her my pictures. She said she understood as I wanted my hair to come through. I'm a dark brown with cool ashy highlights. Well, I was like solid blonde. It was equal to when I over did highlights in 2019 and ended up with too much blonde. To top it off, the front pieces were not toned to match the rest of my hair. I said something and she agreed. She added toner to try to get it to catch up but it was the bleach not processing all the way through. Toner wouldn't help. I was the typical customer who doesn't know what to say at the hair appointment when they hate it. I did tell her sometimes you need a few washes for the toner to chill and maybe that will help it out. The tone was also not totally right overall. I thought she would be able to see my history in the system but maybe she didn't check it. Fast forward, I got to Mexico and didn't call to tell them I was unhappy. When I returned I had the flu for another week. I couldn't believe how bad the stripey uneven mess was after three washes. I didn't get chlorine or ocean water in my hair and the shower water was fine. It was the toner. I look like I did this at home. There are a bunch of areas where the hair is warm toned and not cool, and the front looks terrible. The level I need for the bleach didn't happen uniformly and the toner was wrong to correct for that. I called GJ and they told me I would've needed to call the next day but they would run it by the manager and call me back if I could come in for a toner session. I never got the call back and will never return for any service here whatsoever. It's sad that an easy enough fix would've likely made me a repeat customer but my experience falls in line with many other reviews.

I've been going to Gene Juarez for many years and was never disappointed. Unfortunately, my recent balayage was highly disappointing. I came in looking for a nice brown/caramel, natural looking balayage and came out with a brassy ombre look. The front desk was very understanding and booked my color correction at another gene Juarez location. After an attempt to darken the color and remove the brassiness I'm still pretty disappointed with the color placement as it doesn't look like a balayage and now just looks like my hair has been growing out for months. What started out as an almost $300 balayage, has now cost me time, dry and damaged hair, and probably additional money to chop off the color. Feeling pretty upset about it all.

Nicole cut my hair into a shag!! not what I asked for - who would ask for a shag? the underneath layer was considerably shorter than the top layers, sides were too short. Left with a shag instead of long layers like I asked for.

Kyle was very nice and expectedly professional. I was in for a shampoo/cut/blow-dry service. It had been a long time since my last visit, and it was nice to see quality and service are still priorities at GJ. The cut was subtle. He took virtually nothing off as I'm attempting to grow it longer; however the change was pretty dramatic. Perfectly shaped and styled, I looked much better and felt better too. The price is steep. The results are worth it. Thanks, Kyle! One star missing for being out of coffee in the waiting area.
