Essentials in Verona, WI

I feel at home in this space. Jen takes her time with me and works with me to get my hair to look perfect for me. She even taught me how to style my hair after I cut most of it off earlier this year. Can't beat it.

I found Jen at Essentials on Yelp after one so-so cut/highlight at one high end salon in Madison and another atrocious cut at a different one in Madison. Jen took the time to listen to my concerns about my previous cut and highlights, and then told me exactly what her plan was to fix it over the course of this visit (and presumably next visit). She actually dry cut my hair (nothing off length but shaped all over the helped to blend in the awful choppy layers that the last person had done on the back of my head only -- again, explaining why she was dry cutting over cutting it wet) and then helped blend in the highlights with my existing grow out. I can't gush enough - I am so happy with the results and can't wait to go back to her this summer for my next cut/color. The blow-out to finish off my appointment was excellent too (I didn't even have to come home and "fix it," which I've had to do the last two appointments elsewhere). Highly recommend!

When I moved to Madison, I searched for a place that I would enjoy getting my haircut--one that gave quality service, personal attention, and was affordable. After several poor haircuts (and even resorting to going back to my stylist in Rochester, NY while in town visiting), a friend recommended Essentials to me. Above and beyond my expectations! This is a small place with 2 stylists, Jen (the owner) and Holly. Both are great! The first time I went there, Jen cut my hair. I wanted a new look, so I brought in a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like. She cut my hair EXACTLY like the picture! Perfect! Holly cut my hair the last 2 times. She also does a wonderful job. I got so many compliments on my last 2 haircuts! Another friend liked my hair so much that she switched salons to go there and get her hair cut. She loved it too, and her hair looked great. A word about scheduling in light of another review. Neither I nor my 2 other friends that go to Essentials have had a problem with scheduling an appointment within a reasonable amount of time. If you want a coveted evening appointment, you should call a few weeks ahead. But if you're flexible with the time, it's not a problem. For example, for my last haircut, I called on a Tuesday evening to book and had an appointment on Friday morning (the first available appt. was Thursday). I would highly recommend Essentials to anyone looking for a great haircut!

Called 10:30 am left a message, called several times during the still no answer. Finally got a call back at 4:15. Then said they might be able to get me in in 13 days?This is not customer service.
