COLOR LOUNGE in Honolulu, HI

I couldn't ask for a better stylist than Zenia!!!! She is truly the best. Not only is she super sweet, she executes what I want perfectly every time. Whatever you bring to her wanting, she is able to do. She listens to me, gives me great ideas, and makes the whole experience perfect. The ship is clean, has a great vibe to it, and is definitely the best on the island. I've been to a lot of shops and a lot of stylists, but will never go anywhere else again!

When I relocated from SF to Honolulu, I was on the hunt for a new colorist. After trying two other salons with meh results, I was referred to Janelle and Color Lounge and I immediately knew I had found my match. There is a reason Color Lounge was awarded best of Honolulu 2023 salon...not only is Janelle an expert colorist (I have dark brown hair that she has transformed with beautiful golden highlights/balayage), but she is also a kind and wonderful person. I have observed her to work magic on all types of blonds as well and somehow, she is able to get me in and out of her chair for my monthly touch up appointments faster than any other colorist I have ever been to. Having been to many fancy salons in SF and SoCal (one of my previous colorists is literary a celebrity stylist) over the decades I have been coloring my hair, I can wholeheartedly say that Janelle is the best colorist I have ever been to!

Please know I do not leave negative reviews but my experience with Tasha was very disheartening. My colorist, who did my highlights every three months regularly for the past 11 years, moved to the mainland. I made an appointment with Tasha for FULL highlights and a cut with additional time for extra length and thickness, of which I received several reminders from Vagara. I pulled into the Color Lounge parking lot 10 minutes before my appointment and Tasha called saying she was 15-20 minutes behind schedule. I was fine with that and walked around Kaimuki for 30 minutes, arriving at the Color Lounge when Tasha said she'd be ready. I sat on a stool for an additional 40 minutes (with no acknowledgement) because the current client's significant other was lounging on the couch with his large dog. Nothing was said to this guy with his dog to move over to accommodate paying clients. BTW....I'm a dog lover with 4 large dogs but there is a time and a place for dogs...not in a small hair salon. Over ONE HOUR later Tasha finally finished with her client and made some excuse about the gal going out of town. Tasha was nice enough until I asked for a glass of water and she told me I had to go to the restaurant next door to buy some water. Really? I informed her I wear my hair up and back because I'm outside quite a bit for my job. She then proceeded to add the foils to my hair and stopped when my crown was complete and told me the color would take about 15 minutes to process. I told her I made an appointment for FULL highlights. With no apology or remorse she stated "I thought you made an appointment for a partial" and that my hair would be fine with a partial. After the shampoo and cut, I could tell she was in a rush to complete my drying process by just aiming the hair dryer on my hair. No sectioning it and drying it with a round brush to avoid frizz. She then curled my hair with huge pieces of hair (more than I've ever seen) and claimed that's how "beachy waves" are done. As she was finishing my hair, of course her next client walked in. My experience was that she cut corners and rushed on my hair because she was behind schedule. I would have completely understood her not having enough time to accommodate my appointment if she initially explained she only had time for partial highlights and that I could reschedule, come back for full highlights, or even forgo my cut. NOT put it back on me! It's been barely 4 weeks and I'm having my highlights redone with another colorist after spending $300+ with Tasha. My sides and temples were so sparsely highlighted it looks like nothing was done and the back of my hair wasn't even touched. Very disappointed!

I have been coming to Janelle since I moved to Hawaii! I was in search of a stylist who specialized in blonde and a friend referred me! She does an amazing job and helped me get my hair super healthy & the perfect blonde for my wedding!
