Bellawest Organic Color Salon in Alexandria, VA

A few years ago, I booked an appointment here on a Saturday noonish for haircolor. I live in MD and drove a long way for the appointment. When I arrived, I was summarily told that my stylist had the flu and so therefore my appointment was canceled. The salon offered no apology nor did they attempt in any way to make up for the cancellation. I asked why nobody had let me know sooner. I was told, rather gruffly, that the stylist had planned to come in to cut my hair, even though they had the flu, but then started feeling really sick. I wondered why somebody with the flu would plan to come in to cut hair in the first place and that if the person had just had that good sense from the get go, this situation could have been avoided. When I told them that I was annoyed that I had driven all this way for no reason, salon staff were very rude. The least they could have done was apologize. I will never go back here. You might also think about this place from a germ spreader point of view if staff are trying to come in even when they know they have the flu. I must say, I was also turned off by the dowdy, suburban decor and overall aesthetic of the place. I concur with AA's comment below - it's not for those looking for something edgy or more sophisticated. I note that I was the only PoC there and I wonder if that had anything to do with the way I was treated. I strongly recommend avoiding this place, especially if you are a PoC. Look at the photos too - not a single non-white customer. Hmmm.

I have been going to BellaWest for a few years now. I started going because I had a bad scalp reaction to color. Laura worked with me to find the best product for my sensitive scalp. She is great to work with and her staff are wonderful! I would highly recommend this salon!

While I lived in Santa Monica, I began to go to an organic salon for hair cuts and coloring. Returning to DC, I was thrilled to find Laura and BellaWest for all my hair needs. Laura is attentive to making sure she gets the right shade and cut. I always feel great after getting my hair done. In addition to always feeling Fabius and a bounce in my step, I really appreciate Laura's consciousness to compassion for animals, ethics, and toxic products. Feeling lucky for finding Laura and BelkaWest!

Bella West is one of the only salons I've found that treats your hair with all organic products, including color. Laura is wonderful with color, and she also knows how to cut my hair. She has a helper who takes great care blowing your hair dry. My hair always comes out bouncy and the color always looks rich, shiny, and chic. I heartily recommend this salon for the beautiful organic products, and I think Laura is a trustworthy stylist. Like other commentary here, I found the cost a bit high, and so I am in a position where I go there when I can feel good about spending that much money.

I followed Kat Thomas, whom I've been allowing me to make me beautiful for 10+ years, to this new salon. Once again, Kat did a great job. This time with organic products that smell and feel lovely! No chemical smell or burn. Highly recommend this salon and especially Kat!
