Booking in advance is always advised, but if you're seeking a less bustling environment, you can inquire with At Chick's On the Avenue about their quieter hours.
I had been going to see Sue at Chicks on the Ave for about a year now, and up until my last appointment had good experiences. Sue gave me several great haircuts, and seem personable enough, so I booked an appt for a perm. Normally I get my perms elsewhere, but I thought Sue would do a really good job based on the cuts she'd given me. Big mistake. I warned Sue that my hair has a tough time taking curl and told her that the perm had to be tighter than one would think. We talked about it a little and she proceeded. The cut and perm cost $200. That's TWICE what I've ever paid in the past - which would have been fine if it didn't COMPLETELY fall out two days later. When I went back to talk to Sue about it she almost had me in tears. She refused to acknowledge the problem I had with paying $200 for a service that actually made my hair worse than it was in the first place, and then proceeded to tell me how terrible my hair looked in the pictures I had brought her to show her what I wanted initially. It was honestly one of the rudest things I've ever experienced, especially because I was working so hard to be understanding and polite. The whole interaction was so uncomfortable that I never went back to get the stupid hair product she offered my as compensation for my TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS and 3 hours of time wasted in her shop. Hair product, really? Anyone else would have apologized for the inconvenience and redone the perm. I will NEVER ever go back to Sue again, and I would not recommend anyone go there for anything more than a cut.
I have been going to Stephanie (one of the stylists at Chicks) for the past 10 years now. I have followed her through 3 different salons and could not be happier with the job she does. It's gotten to a point where now when I go in and she asks what I want, I just say, "I don't know. Just make me look pretty." And she always does. I think every time I ask her to come be my personal stylist when I hit the lottery. As long as she keeps doing what she's doing, I will never see anyone else. Ever.
I cant speak for the rest of the salon but the stylist "Sue" who claims that she can do Keratin treatments is the rudest most unprofessional poor excuse for a hair stylist that I have ever seen. She sent my friend away in tears because she refused to do a keratin treatment on her & insulted her repeatedly when we had already described her hair over the phone to Sue & booked an appointment. She told my friend that she didnt brush her hair at all (not true) and that she would need 5-6 hrs to do anything at all with her hair but that she should just cut it all off. She offered no positive suggestions but rather was just a cold a heartless old woman. She could of just simply said she was not skilled enough to style hair that isn't "white hair". What a nice way to treat someone on their birthday Sue.
Do Not Call the Number listed about. That number is Sue's direct number and she is by far the worst hair dresser I have ever encountered. With no personal manners, she was rude and acted like she couldnt be bothered with me. She didnt listen to anything i asked for, and basically acted like i was wasting her time. Not to mention she charged me double what any other salon would charge. When I called to try and fix this problem, she refused to give me money back or try and fix my hair and had the audacity to hang up on me. Her people skills are terrible and can not believe she is still working. I was disgusted with her attitude towards me and overall felt completely taken advantage of.
If you want to go there, call the general number and ask for anyone else. It'll save you a lot of money and energy. She is not worth your time if she can barely make you worth hers.
I was looking for a salon to get my haircut, googled this place and realized it was in my neighborhood. I am new to Bunker Hill. I called to make an inquiry about getting my hair cut, the lady on the phone was absolutely rude and not helpful. Like she couldn't be bothered with my phone call. Not a good sign. I will never visit an establishment that does not represent itself in a professional manner to a possible new customer.
