Zinc Salon in Unionville, CT

Good haircuts if you can ever find a time. Barbers have their own clients and are often not available even if there is nobody in the shop. Do not expect to walk-in and get a haircut even though they have a walk-ins welcome sign in front of the shop.

In a nutshell if its Zinc, pretty good bet it Stinks!

I'm pretty intense about my hair, particularly for a guy.  

I went to Chris Carmen the owner...because when I booked a first ever appointment, they said, "Chris was the ultimate at cutting hair". I wonder how his other stylist's felt about that statement?  

I read all of these great reviews and a few negatives ones as well. I am bye the salon all the time and its never busy, and seldom even more than one or two people in the place...so I don't know where all these positive reveiws are coming from.  And its sooo interesting how many of them paint Chris or one of the operators as a savior and problem fixer.  How is it that one salon has so many disasters from other salons?  Think about it!!!!

I went in on a late Friday afternoon, and the place was empty.  One other stylist was milling about with nothing to do.  Chris and I chatted for a moment about  what I wanted done. I was very specific, and Chris pretty much ignored me from the get go.  I questioned him two or three times, and he thought it was funny, and said, "Don't worry it grows back".  When he was done butchering my hair, and asked me how I liked it, I said, "I asked you NOT to go so short, you did it anyway.  l know...it will grow back."  

My hair is fine hair, and it flips & curls if you don't cut it properly.  Given the length of my hair before the cut, that wasn't apparent, but my warning was, and Chris said he understood.  The guy is says one thing, does another, and is then less than professional about it.

I was very, very clear about the nature of my hair, and not wanting it to flip up in back and I didn't want wings (strictly a outcome of the cut) on the side.  One could see, as soon as it was cut...Chris had created more wings than I had ever even seen before.  And it was immediate.  Likewise the back was poised to flip, as soon as it was cut...absolutely the first and only time my hair has ever done this.  

Chris said, if you really don't like it, give it a week or two and come back and see me.  Well I reluctantly decided to give Chris a heads up that I wasn't happy.  My hair had grown back enough in the last week or two, that a different cut might work. I stopped in so Chris could put a face and hair style with the name and conversation.  As it worked out, Chris was out when I came by about 4:pm.  I had a nice conversation with one of the other stylists, and she wanted to book me another appointment.  When I declined saying let me and Chris talk first...he may not want to deal with it.  Half and. . hour later Chris called, and claimed to not know a thing about anything, just was given a phone number and my name.  That too strikes me as interesting considering the nice conversation I had with the other person.  

I tried to share some information about me so that Chris might, maybe remember me, but if he did, he wasn't letting on.  Then he insultingly said, After that speech about your hair, I don't know what to say.  Then he asked about making an appointment for me?  Given his rude remarks to me I asked him if he really wanted me to do that, as it sure didn't sound as if he wanted to.  Chris went on and on about having  cut hair for 35+ years, and never had a complaint. (there are a few on this reveiws board already). The he started down a really ugly path, saying that it sounded like he or any hair stylist would never be able to make me happy, that I was "one of those people".  And that if it walks like a duck, it must be a duck, and its best if we separate right here and now.  I said heck of way to do business, but I guess my hair cut explains why you have too.  Then he hung up on me. So there you have it.  My mistake in writing for having chosen to go to Zinc and risk my healthy hair on a butcher.  I'd really go anywhere but to this place.

Best style salon in Connecticut. I kid you not.  I've tried the best of names I will not post.  They pale to Chris and his artistic perfection.  If you are looking for for the extrordinary haircut, one that will let you stand out, run to Zinc.  The total environment, artistic genre, patio on the river to sit while your head cooks, you've found it.

My complements to Chris and his team.  Definitely outshines the others that claim to be rockstars!!

My daughter is growing out her hair from a very short style. She really needed a trim and a re-shape. I called Zinc in the morning and was able to get a same day appointment. The salon was fun and relaxing. Our stylist, Dawn, was super sweet with my daughter, talking about what her hair goals were. All in all, a great cut, a great price, a great  experience.

After years of self-coloring, self-trims and a few bad hit-or-miss experiences with some area salons, I think I may have found my place. Marie took literal years off my  face, bringing my color up, some highlights and giving me a good cut I can actually work with. That and some volumizing products...voila! I seriously feel so much better about myself and my appearance. today I put on makeup for the first time in ages and tossed my pretty hair. I know...salon care is expensive and time consuming, but when you get a good result like I did, in a friendly, laid back environment, it can be a worthy investment in your self esteem! Thank you, Marie and Zinc! I feel awesome!
