Zen Nails Studio in Oxon Hill, MD

Zen Nails Studio is run by Asian owners that do not respect their African-American customers. The nail techs are "just average" in terms of their skill levels. Their pricing is a little bit higher than most shops in the area. But the main thing I didn't like was the attitude of the management. Zen advertises a5% discount when you pay cash. But every time that they think they can get away with it, i.e. unless you bring it up again when you pay cash --they will not give it to you! When you catch them "trying to be slick", they say, Oh yeah", and then go back and refund the discount. I had paid cash one time for $100 of services, and just as I was driving away realized that the bald-headed guy hadn't given me my discount, $5.00. I came back showed my reciept and asked for my discount and the woman at reception claimed she couldn't give me my discount-only the manager could and he "has gone home". I came back again, and they still refused to pay me that measley discount! So I will never come back, and I recommend you never go! Cheap, dishonest and disrespectful.

When this place first opened in 2015 or 2016, I went a few times before relocating. I LOVED IT! I'm in town for a few months. After read8ng the reviews,I broke down and started going back, so far 2 visits. I ABSOLUTELY HATE that I'm not listened to and acknowledged; "you worry", "I do 2 coats for you" (of top coat) NO, NANCY! I asked you to apply a little glue so my nail could grow out and not break in the skin. So what happened? The crack opened and kept catching my hair, the dog's hair, my sweaters. I LOVE The DND polish and the colors. I no longer worry about my thumbs peeling up, but now 2 nail techs have been reluctant with Nancy, just NOT using nail glue. BTW, these are my nails, and they're kinda soft, hence the gel polish and faithful visits to a nail shop. I REFUSE get dip or cover my nails with acrylic nails, NOT HEALTHY. URGH! Not using the glue feels like an up sale tactic! Very old school and demeaning. So if you have no nail issues, the manicure quality is EXCELLENT! The timing to get in a chair, ! The prices, on par. Oh, and Nancy wouldn't allow me to get a decent amount of time under the light??? This tactic will make your color start to wave up or bubble. The pictures are my nails after 2 and 3 weeks. If I can get a nail tech to listen and do what I want and I'M PAYING FOR, this place would be my solid GO TO! Nancy did my brows-PERFECT!!!!

CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!! I wanted to treat myself and ended with an "acceptable" manicure and pedicure. I say acceptable because he filed the sides taking off some of the polish and left me with polish on 2 fingers. The way I figure we are human so nothing is perfect. But what I did not find "acceptable" was the underhanded $10 they tried to sneak onto my bill. It's clear the business is struggling (holes in massage chairs, unclean wax area, subpar "spa" services). So they intentionally don't show you the tickets or give you the total and receipt when you pay that way they can overcharge. So BEWARE. Better yet, go to another nail spot.

I was a walk in and I requested a mani/pedi and a shiny buff. When I was seated my nail tech NANCY was trying to upsale services but when I asked her about the difference between traditional/spa/ and zen spa she couldn't tell me the difference. When I requested shiny buff she made a face and said gel is better. I told her I don't want gel. After my pedicure was done she walked me over to start my mani. In the middle of my mani, one of her regulars came in and all of a sudden she attempts to do a rush job. She "did" a buff on my nails and nothing shined and when I brought it to her attention she said "you want the sides done?" Yes ma'am that is a part of my nail isn't it?!

I come here very often due to the fact that I don't believe that they deserve the extra service I will not be uploading pictures, but honestly the customer service 0/10 they are very rude and not attentive. They act like they have an attitude anytime you ask a simple question, and if it wasn't for my favorite 2 nail techs, I would no longer be coming to this spot.
