Young Hair Salon in Skokie, IL

I had my hair cut a couple of months back and still love my haircut. I have been trying $60 to $100 haircuts but since my old hairstylist relocated, I have not been satisfied. The price around $30 cannot be beat. Do not expect a fancy interior though. She was able to do a long v cut and remove hair bulk at the top. Price does not include wash but includes blow dry. She is not an expert English speaker but you can bring pictures and use Google language translate (English to Korean) in advance and do a screen shot to show her.

I just got my haircut today and I love it!!! The stylist (korean woman) knows what she's doing and giving insight on how to style hair.

The building and inside looks old and outdated with lack of ventilation but she cuts hair really good. I have long hair and I have been coming here for couple of years. She is sweet and super nice.

I typically cut my own hair since I've tried a handful of other places in the area and was never fully satisfied with the outcome. It's also a mini-hobby of mine that I've been doing since 2017 or so and I'm usually happy with how I do it -- emphasis on "usually." But we have a lot of weddings coming up so I figured I should try to go somewhere to make it look more professionally done and not risk having something go wrong, and I've been looking for a new place anyway. I decided on coming here based on both the excellent Yelp and Google reviews, and it was also one of the more affordable ones ($25 for men's cut). I called at around 11am today and Young answered; I asked if she had any open spots in the afternoon which unfortunately she didn't. However she said I could come in at 7pm which is when they close, but she assured me that this was fine with her. At around 6pm she calls me and asks if I could head over now (I assume she had a cancellation or two); I was free so I was able to go. Street parking was readily available right in front of the shop. I read some reviews about the $5 charge for the shampoo service so I didn't put any product in my hair beforehand. I showed her some reference pictures, had a short discussion about what I wanted as well as some of her thoughts, and then she got right to it. It only took roughly 20 minutes as it was mostly a trim and not a big cut. She did seem a bit rushed but even so she was very efficient, although after getting home I noticed that there is a small area in the back that could have been blended in a little better. It's not terribly obvious though. What stood out to me was the fact that she actually styled my hair similar to the reference pictures I showed her. I know it sounds basic and silly, but I've shown the same reference pictures to other salons and they've only given me the haircut and minimally styled it with their hands + product afterwards; they've never really given me what I asked for. But Young busted out the flat iron and took the time to put some waviness into my otherwise thick and straight hair so I could finally see how I would look with this style. In the end I decided that the wavy-ish hair wasn't really for me, but I absolutely appreciate her giving me what I asked for so I could come to this decision. For the most part I'll keep cutting my own hair every now and then, but for those times where I don't feel like doing it or need it professionally done for a big event, I'll be coming back to see Young! I've been looking for a Korean salon closer to Chicago since I moved from the suburbs. Very happy with my layered cut by owner Young. I have the type of thin hair that gets fluffy and frizzy with too much layers/thinning, however without me even asking, she gave me the right amount of blunt-ish long layers! I showered right before going to my appt so can't say for the shampoo service, but my haircut was efficiently and expertly done. Young was friendly and gave me advice on how to style and take care of my hair. Free parking in the back was a huge plus too. All in all, really happy to have found this little gem ‍
