Let me tell you about my amazing hair stylist Kate ! She has seen and concurred the mess head I had from another local very POPULAR salon that to me completely ruin my hair and created the biggest project I could ever have imagined. However Kate has proven to me there is nothing she can't handle ! She takes her time and pays attention to all the details for you ! I have been looking for someone like Kate for literally 10 years and I am beyond thankful for her and her expertise! Thank you Kate for fixing my hair and making me feel so beautiful again !!!
I had an appointment with Kate yesterday, and she did an awesome job! The salon itself is cute, not ultra trendy and over the top - more of a homey type feel in downtown Livermore. The last time I got my hair cut, I went to a random person at Ulta because I was in a rush and getting out of town the next day and just needed a quick cut. As we started chatting, I quickly found out that this stylist had recently broke up with her bf - and she was wildly talking about the drama. Each chop of the scissors represented her hatred for that man - she ruined my hair like she was Edward scissor hands! It's been over 6 months since I've had my haircut due to needing to let it grow out. Needless to say I was nervous to have a new person style my hair again, but I've recently moved to California and needed a new stylist anyway. Kate listened to what happened last time (because as she looked at my hair she could tell how choppy and uneven the previous stylist had left my hair). She also listened to what I wanted in regards to color and did her best to execute it. When it came time to trim my hair, she was very quiet and concentrated on what she was doing - which I totally appreciate after the past trauma of the crazy drama stylist! I'm totally happy with how the partial color and trim turned out and will definitely return. Thank you, Kate!
Why do we go to a hair stylist? Because we care about our appearance. When we sit down in that chair, we trust that stylist to honestly tell us their capabilities. If they make a mistake, we trust them to be transparent and offer correction/restitution. On 10/1/20, I went for the first time to Kristina Yarbrough. We discussed my desired haircut and color. On this day she did my highlights and cut. The highlights came out OK, but could have been blended better and should have been taken right to the scalp. Instead, the highlights started about 1/2 - 1 inch from the scalp. The cut, a forward-angled bob, was OK but she didn't seem to understand that the back layering needs to be stacked a little more, even though I had pictures. A few days later when I washed my hair, I discovered that the angle was not clean; instead, kind of zigzag. On 10/15/20, I went back to have Kristina do my touch-up color. I had previously told her three times what my formula was. She never wrote it down while I told her so I hoped she would remember. After she finished and blew my hair dry, it looked a little lighter than usual but it was hard to tell in the salon lighting. When I got home I could clearly see that the roots were too light. I knew it would be one of two things: 1) she used the Redken Color Gel instead of the Color Fusion, or 2) she did not apply it enough to cover everything adequately. I called the next morning and left her a message; asking which formula she used. To date (10 days later), she never called me back. Regarding the cut, she did fix the angle but got a little snippy when she asked, "What else?" At that point I dared not mention the layering. Obviously, this is very poor customer service on all accounts. I am just letting people know that she cannot be trusted. She should have told me immediately that my roots did not come out as dark as previous applications because I know she could see it. Additionally, she should have either not charged me or offered another time to fix it.
Amy did a wonderful job on my cut and highlights today. Strands has always been a very clean and professional salon but they've really gone all out for COVID-19 safety. Thanks again Amy, I love my hair.
