Two weeks have passed since getting my first haircut at this establishment, and I absolutely LOVE MY HAIR!

I've lived in the neighborhood for decades, and finally booked an appointment here. Great atmosphere/ambiance, was even greeted kindly.

Lynnae was AMAZING! The attention to detail and quality time she spent on my long hair was extremely professional. I will definitely be coming back to see her for my future haircut appointments.

Guys/Dudes, please treat yourself, & give Southpaw a try!

In admonishing another patron for not adhering to their late/no-show policy the owner once responded on google, "99.999% of our salon guests are on time because that is the understood baseline of respect and integrity. It is an equally upheld baseline: for us as service providers to run on time and you as guests to simply arrive on time."

However, when they closed their business on 8/21/23, they did not contact me in anyway to let me know that they would not open or honor appointments. Nothing on the website. Nothing on Instagram. No email, text, or call. My time was wasted as I drove to the Silver Lake, parked, waited, and tried to call/message to find out what was going on.

It's only some time lost and there are obviously other places to get a haircut, but I find the double-standard ridiculous and worth sharing with others who have been frustrated by this establishment or those looking for a new shop.

Owner, please put away the sanctimonious "respect and integrity" speech.

p.s. Nothing against the employees/stylists/barbers who are just doing their jobs.

TLDR; predatory business practices, poor customer service, odd.

After researching some barbershops in the Silverlake area, I came across this establishment. I drove over, entered the shop and was greeted by the Host. I inquired if there were any walk-ins available, the Host replied that there was an appointment available later on, at 5:15pm. I accepted this timeslot. The Host requested I put a card on-file, they did not offer any explanation as to why they needed a card, but, nonetheless I gave them my card. I left and continued along with my day.

At around 5pm, on my way back to this barbershop, I got stuck in terrible traffic. I called the shop to inform them that I'd be running late. The Host answered my call, I explained my situation and that I'd like to push my haircut to 5:30pm. The host responded that every appointment has a 15-minute grace period, I explained that my current ETA was 5:35pm so I'd rather just move the whole appointment to 5:30pm. The host accepted this and said that they'd inform my stylist.

I arrive at 'Southpaw' at 5:38pm. Upon entry, the host informs me that my stylist can no longer work with me today. The host adds that the other stylist in the shop is also unable to cut my hair. Both stylists are sitting in their chairs on their phones. There are no others customers in-sight. The host asked if I'd like to reschedule. I said that that would be alright. I leave 'Southpaw'.

On my way home, I observe that my credit card had been charged $55: the charge from 'Southpaw'. I called the shop again and the Host picked up, again. I inquired about the $55 charge. The host explained that I had been marked as a no-show and therefore charged their 'No-Show Cancellation Fee'. I respond by asking for a refund. The Host says that "I could email the owner asking for a refund" because the Host does not have the ability to authorize refunds.

To recap, I was never, not once, PRIOR TO THE FACT informed that there was a late fee, a cancellation fee, or a "no show" fee. Not in person, not over text or email. Over the phone, I was told that it would be alright to move my appointment to 5:30pm and only when I drove all the way to this business establishment was I informed, at 5:38pm, that my appointment was canceled (while two stylists sat in plain view doing nothing). And then, as a final touch to my customer experience, I was charged $55.

What a strange, terrible experience.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience at Southpaw last week.  I was late for my appointment (which I totally own) but I tried to be the best customer I could and called them 3 times (including an hour before my appointment time) to inform them I was running 15-20 minutes late do to a medical appointment running long.  The receptionist was really rude and just kept falling back on their 15 minute late and we'll charge you policy.  I ended up rushing and getting there 17 minutes late and pleaded with him to let me get the haircut - he wouldn't budge and told me the barber had gone to lunch already even though I saw him in the salon still.  I get it - business has policies - but this was also my 3rd visit and I just moved to the neighborhood and was planning to be a customer for years - plus I called and let them know multiple times.  I don't fault them for the policy I just think the level of customer service and the rudeness of the staff was really appalling.
