Let me preface this review by saying I absolutely loathe going to hair salons. The appointmens ontop of appointments, the wait time and attitudes are just not worth it to me. I previously visited this salon as I ran for a state position and was going to a Gala benefit to support the YWCA re opening on the North side. Now I was going here before this visit....regularly for me which was a couple times a year, working with hairstylist, Candice, who was super patient and helpful. Candice wasn't always available though when I needed so I started to give others a try. Well in Dec of 2022, I actually had an appointment booked with the owner Latrece Nelson, I believe. I stressed to her that this was an important event and that I needed to look super flawless because I'm a perfectionist. The appointment was for a silk press with curls. I advised her that she needed to trim very little as I wanted to ​retain my length. Simple enough, I thought! I had watched a few videos of hairstylist who were using innovative ways to trim hair without getting rid of the length....it's a process but It can be done, please don't let ANYONE, tell you otherwise. The salon is shared with men which is already extremely uncomfortable for me but I got in her chair and watched as she just started chopping all my hair off. I was in disbelief!!!! The other hairstylists were looking at me knowing that this isn't what they heard me say I wanted either. The men barbers and customers were laughing and mumbling under their breaths as I was pretty transparent about not being happy. I ended up paying $30 more than usual for this silk press because it was done by the owner. When I got home I ended up texting her asking her about possibly getting a different style. Then I realized the lack of regard she showed initially for what I told her I needed and just decided to do my own hair which turned out how I wanted it to look cause I'm pretty simple when it comes to styles. I would describe myself as regal, classic/classy and timeless when it comes to my myself and hair. I love to see black businesses thrive so Im always so supportive which is why I'm hoping this review helps Prenasis do better by their clients. I've never come in with a attitude just questions and I certainly wasn't asking for anything unrealistic. This experience pushed me over the edge in not wanting to return not just to their salon but any salon. ​I guess I'll say thank you too because I never would've known what I was capable of in regards to doing my own hair if I hadn't been treated so poorly and put in a position of panic to figure things put on my own AFTER shelling out about $100. This was the second incident I had with this salon the first one was when they first opened up in the Sherman Phoenix building, called Shampoo'd​, which is now closed. I was seeing Candice at that time and was mistakenly booked with the owner then too and wasn't advised until I got in her chair. Her shampoo lady didn't properly clean my hair so after the owner had already started blow drying my hair she noticed I needed to be re washed which made me so upset because my hair was already damaged! Anyway the point is, It was horrible because all I remember is the experience, I dont even know if i was satisfied. I intrusted my hair to a person who should've been more willing to do what was in my best interest, for an event that was very important to me and I take that very seriously. If you can't do something, say so if it can't be executed how the client asks say so. Stylist need to be ok with missing out on money if it means the best interest of the client. That's what builds relationships and rapport. I know Prenasis doesn't care about losing me as a customer, but I hope noone else has to go through what I did. Lets do better as people and people who provide services.
