Salon Journey in Upper Marlboro, MD

I want to start by saying my son is autistic and when he goes to a salon I based that salon on people who are patient. At first everything was ok. His regular stylist is in Waldorf and it's too far now that we've moved. He never gave them much problems in the beginning but as time went on he started to not want his hair washed more and more until one day, I received photos of water on the floor and a text stating he cannot come back unless washed and blow dried. Now that's the hard part so I figure then I will not come back at all. For parents who have children that are not use to washing and blow drying or have a fear of the wash bowl DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON! My son does have a fear of the wash bowl.

I booked with this salon the day before thanksgiving after being referred by a friend. Before booking with any new salon I make sure to carefully read all policies, which I did in this case. When I got to the salon the stylist told me it was for drop offs only, mind you my son is a toddler and can barely speak for himself. What mother leaves their toddler with strangers w/ no supervision? They service toddlers so it's very very weird to me that anyone thinks this is okay. I asked who I believe is the salon owner to show me where in the policy it said "drop offs only" because as I stated I read through it. She pulls up the policy and it read "parents can wait in the waiting area." So I then replied that doesn't say drop offs.. the policy I fully signed stated parents can wait in waiting area, she then pulls up a second policy, that barely had a signature on it that read "drop offs only." So for me it's just like okay which one is it? Because the one I signed in FULL read I could wait. All in all her system had a glitch and instead of accommodating me she cancels my appointment the day before thanksgiving. I think it's disgusting, unacceptable and very unprofessional to make parents wait outside for their kids to get their hair done. You're not a licensed childcare facility, you're a hair salon. My child is way too young to be left alone with people he doesn't know. I will never book here again and if you care about your child you shouldn't either. Best of luck to you weirdos.

This salon is amazing and I couldn't think of one complaint if I tried. All of the stylists are super sweet and welcoming. We personally use Aniya, who braids my daighter's hair so well and not too tight ( a big thing for me to maintain her hair/edges health). The whole salon is geared towards kids. Cartoons are playing on the TVs and the decor is very kid-friendly. My daugther loves going and I think it helps that she sees other little princesses there getting their hair done at the same time!

Ms. Aja & her team are very Professional & quick! In & out in 2 hours or less! Ms. Aja is like the baby/hair whisper for tender headed children. My daughter would screen prior to coming to salon Journey. She is so comfortable that she will now sit in the chair, get her hair blow dryer & styled with no tears. So thankful for Ms. Aja
