PRO Nails in St Paul, MN

I found this salon on yelp. I don't live in the state anymore and needed a good place close-by. The places is nice looking and clean. When i was there manicures were done in the front an pedicures in the back. They have brand new massage chairs for the pedis. Everyone was friendly and I was satisfied with my nails. One thing I would suggest, make an appointment or wait.

I recently moved back to MN and was happy when my boyfriend told me there's a nail place right by our house. He vouched that Pro Nails was good: he'd been there a few times and he also said his ex, who was very "particular" about her nails, liked it alot. So when the time came I booked us appointments for a weekend afternoon. The first two things I noticed when we walked in: we were the only customers, and the place is huge. I am used to walking into a salon on a weekend afternoon and seeing a bunch of techs, every chair full, and clients waiting as well. Nope. Just us and two employees (I think one was the man that answered the phone when I made my appointment; I wonder if he's the owner). I can't complain about this but it makes we wonder when they fill up the place if they are dead when a salon is typically full. THE PROS: -- Apparently you don't need to make an appointment -- The employees were super friendly -- I didn't feel rushed but the pedis didn't take forever either -- There are several TVs so my boyfriend could watch football while getting his feet tended to -- They use that "cheese grater" thing so if you have thick calluses they can be tackled with a vengeance (my boyfriend loves and needs this) -- The pedis were about $25 each which is reasonable -- They take cards THE NOT SO PROS: -- I thought they did some unusual things (but maybe I am just used to other things?): he didn't soak my feet before getting started, he filed my nails before cutting them, he used a soap on my legs that irritated my skin a bit, and he put my flip flops on before painting my nails -- The "cheese grater" came out of and went back into a drawer, which makes me think it's not sanitized in-between clients (YIKES) -- The pedi polish looks fine but not great -- The space is a little shabby and won't be your thing if you want a luxurious and pampering spa experience I am sure I will be back to Pro Nails since they did a decent job and the convenience can't be beat as long as I'm on the Eastside.
