MB Salon in Birmingham, AL

I found this place because it had good reviews and they all raved about how awesome it is. Michele is very sweet and talkative, and she works her tail off, but not being able to stick to a timed schedule is a huge issue and I did not have a great experience, sadly..

My first appointment was 13 hours. Corrective balayage treatment. I had 2 other appointments lined up that day that I had to cancel because I could not leave with bleach or product in my hair so I was trapped for the whole amount of time up until I finally had my hair washed at the end and I walked out because Michele had left to do laundry for 20 minutes. She ran into me on my way out and convinced me to come back in for the remaining portion of my appointment. I paid the full amount plus tip. No discount was offered or even considered and I did not ask because i was just ready to get home, as it was around 11:00pm, and I arrived at 9:45am for my 10:00am appointment.

I should have never went back for the second appointment, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I just needed a simple haircut that I waited 2 hours total for... A HAIRCUT. Appointment was at 7:15pm and I did not leave until 9:00pm. No style, nothing else, just a simple cut. When I got home, I noticed there was a big chunk that was very noticeable so I texted the MB Salon # and I was left with no reassurance and would have to wait days to get back in for her to fix it. I asked for a refund or for guidance on the situation and have not heard back in over a week. I have no choice but to leave the worst review. I would not recommend this place to anyone. 0/5 stars.

I have never left a bad review before and am always nice and forgiving but this kind of service is unbelievable and unacceptable.

I sent over photos of my butchered hair. Her response was "that this is not her work and that she knows her work."

No refund was given!

If a stylist won't acknowledge a clients concern, that is a bad stylist!

I have never been bullied into a haircolor, and now I can say that I have.  I had the most nightmarish experience of my life at this salon- and while I am an understanding and empathetic person, the way I was treated is just unacceptable and the only recourse I have is this review.  I understand that I came in, highlighted blonde-and asked to go back to my natural brunette color, I brought pictures and knew it would be a "process". What I didn't know is that Michelle TRIPLE books herself and colors one person while another processes and another is getting washed.  It was a mad house in there-often leaving me to process for way longer than needed- all in all I had chemicals on my head for over 5 hours and was in the salon for OVER 7!!! In that time the shirt and shoes I was wearing were ruined with hair color- she made an attempt to get the color out, and while it was able to be lightened- it is still visible on both items and no attempt to reimburse me was made.  I also dealt with a terrible scalp reaction-that has never before happened in over 20 years of coloring my hair- where HUGE chunks of scalp were coming off.  Sadly, my most upsetting result of all is the color was just not what I wanted- I asked for a medium tone brown- and I got a very severe almost black color that I hate.  I went back to the salon after a few days of trying to adjust to it to see what she would be willing to do; and I was told "that she likes it and I should just get used to it".  I have had miscommunications on color before, but never have I met someone not willing to make thier client happy. Specially after taking an entire day of their time and ruining over $200 of their clothes. Beware.

I'm new to the area and hadn't found a hairstylist before the covid crisis shut down most businesses but Michelle was able to fit me in for a trim & balayage appointment within 2 weeks and even moved up my appointment an hour when I asked. She listened to my ideas, gave her input, and we were able to establish exactly what would be best for my hair and desired maintenance level (low). She was super friendly, professional, and made the long process so much better. I gave it a week before posting the review just to ensure I loved it after a few washes and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled stylist!

First, let me start by saying I came from another salon who completely burned my scalp while trying to go platinum. I searched for salons in the area specializing in blonde hair, specifically platinum, and found MB Salon. I called and spoke to Michelle and explained everything. She was extremely knowledgeable on everything and promised they offered services to make sure my scalp would not burn. Wow. I am so incredibly HAPPY to say I did not burn AT ALL and Angela did and amazing job! I will be back for sure! I high suggest this place to anyone looking for true professionals who genuinely care about the integrity of your hair and giving the best results.
