Mai Spa & Nails in Portsmouth, NH

paid for a full set less then a week ago and three nails already broke.. paid a lot of money and tipped well and i called to see if i could get them fixed and they told me i had to pay 5 dollars each nail that was broken. i have never seen this before and it is highly ridiculous.

I have been a customer for 3 years and have seen people unhappy and customer blamed but this is my first personal experience. I asked for oval tips... literally leaving with round circle nails shorter than my actual nail headed to a really special event for me- which I told them. When I asked to speak with Kim, the owner, she told me it was what I asked for- who would ever ask for this. She didn't give me the time of day and I have never complained before. Actually I was told to walk up to Kim by the front desk girl because Kim was ignoring me and the front desk girl knew it was not ok. I was willing to pay I just wanted to get it fixed. I took it upon myself to book with Kim the next day to get a new set.

The next day in didn't get into Kim's chair until 11:20 when my apt was for 11:00. I finally got in Kim's chair and she was silent, never acknowledged me or that I was unsatisfied. She just started removing my nails and I got some dirty looks from the gentleman next to her. I was the first to bring up the situation and she continued to tell me it was my fault and she "didnt have to fix this for me". It actually felt like she was trying to go on my skin with the drill tool?? Totally unprofessional, I'm someone who never complains or writes reviews, I literally had to sign in to make this review. This was upsetting!! Especially for being more pricey than other nail places. Kim did a good job and I did get what I originally wanted, painfully. She did not charge me for the redo either, when I was going to be charged originally.

What I got vs what I wanted in pics. I would believe the other similar reviews and take your business elsewhere, they have lost a 3 year customer for handling the situation poorly. This was totally avoidable.
Side note- if you do go, do not use their ATM. It has kept money and charged my card before. I have heard this has happened to others and they only accept cash.

I got a set of plain white dip nails, almond shaped. Nothing fancy. Two hours and the woman seemed annoyed with me, she didn't say anything and to move my hand would basically just slap my hand or pull me. The nails look fine but they took from 3pm-5pm

Ive been coming here for a long time and was never completely satisfied with my nails but my experience from the beginning of may changed my opinion. I got a full set and a pedicure and got an infection in my big toe and my thumb. The one on my toe healed fairly fast but my thumb was another story. It spread under half my finger and down my thumb. It took two kinds of antibiotics to heal and now half my thumbnail is falling off and no longer attached to the nail bed. I'm disgusted but not surprised. I've had problems with the nail tech before (forget her name but station number 9) but this was just bad.

I usually do not write reviews, but I have given this place two chances and unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. both times I went for a UV gel fill and felt quite rushed, and that time was not taken on my manicure. simple details were looked over such as the length of all of my nails, not being correct, as well as shaping of the nails was quite sloppy. I also asked for simple designs, which I was willing to pay more for, but they would not accommodate me, which was slightly frustrating. I had the same experience both times I had gone, which is what prompted me to write this review. I just feel like some more attention to detail should be made, and would create a much more pleasant experience overall.
