Kut-Em Up Hair & Nails Salon in Detroit, MI

I've been coming to Yody's shop for at least 10 years! She's so nice and always been the same to me! Her sew ins are THE TRUTH! Her braider and sister is Sonja! When I go to get my hair redone, the braids ARE STILL TIGHT! I can literally get washed and not get braided again if I wanted to. They also have a makeup SURGEON named Kayah that is a BEAST! Go check them out and support Black businesses as never before!

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the level of service I was provided on 03/05/2020. The stylist who did my hair, sorry to say, did a terrible job. Definitely wasn't worth $40. I wish I would have taken a picture to show everyone how terrible this so-called stylist did (if she want to call herself that). My family was shocked that any stylist would braid a clients hair the way she did mine. This is only my second time up here. The first time, I got my hair done by a woman named "Afrika", she did a fantastic job. I even liked the way she braided my hair. The second time I came in, another woman agreed to do my wash, blow-dry and braid because Afrika wasn't in. The first thing I noticed about the stylist doing my hair was her constant eating. It's unsanitary to eat while doing clients hair, ugh. Not only that but after she hand blow-dried my hair, she attempted to put me under the dryer chair which could have caused heat damage to my hair from excessive heat. If I had not put a stop to it, unfortunately, this would have been the case with my hair. Before the wash, the stylist attempted to comb my hair with a toothpick wire comb which can cause your hair being ripped out, smh. Luckily, I brought my own wide tooth comb. Anyway, after she finished, it looked like a 12 year old braided my hair. It looked very messy. Not to mention, my hair felt itchy. The stylist did not follow directions. Before anything was done, I told her I would like for her to braid my hair into another braid, instead she loops the braids. I can't work with a stylist who can't follow directions. Oh word of advice, bring your own shampoo and conditioner b/c they use the cheap shampoo which can strip your hair of moisture causing dry and brittleness. It was terrible. Bring your own comb and brush. There is no guarantee they sterilize anything. The stylist who did my hair was was nice but nasty. Sorry, I won't be returning. I will be going to a more upscale salon in downtown Detroit. I have too much nice thick hair to risk getting it done here.Also, the salon is kinda filthy and Ratchet

I wish I could give this place a 0 as a 1 is too high!! The place needs some renovations and better upkeep. I received a service that damaged my hair and the stylist was unwilling to help. Please do not go to this salon.

Found out this stylist Yody had been sued for terrible work she performed on a client. The client won her case which says that Yody def did something wrong and the judge agreed. But I still decided I would give her a try cause a friend said she was great. When I talk about dirty ghetto salon this is it. The chair you sit in to get your hair braided is unstable and on an uneven surface so the stylist has to stand on the side of it to keep it from spinning. Dirty salon and you can tell they don't take their money and put it back into the salon. Horrible attitudes of the staff and inappropriate conversations. Save the sex talk for you home not your business. Needless to say my sew-in weave looked like a wig and I will never be coming back here. Please beware!

Worst hair experience of my life. First of all, more than halfway through my service I found out the person I made my appointment with wasn't even the one doing my hair! I came in and clearly stated my appointment was with Yody and having never met her before I was under the impression that the woman who told me she would be starting my hair shortly was Yody. However, all Yody does is cut huge unflattering chunks out of your virgin weave. Not only that, but I left the shop in TEARS because not only did this hack of a stylist hack my weave, but it was installed to look like one of the most unflattering wigs I have ever seen in my life. She then had the NERVE to charge me full price ($100) when I was CLEARLY unhappy with the results and had the AUDACITY to charge me another $65 to fix it. I would not recommend this raggedy, ratchet, classless establishment to anyone, ever. The building itself was filthy and is clearly rarely swept properly and probably never mopped. Only one of maybe 6 to 10 stylists even had a jar of barbicide, HELLO HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. .. Not to mention half of them probably aren't and never have been properly licensed. Next time, I'm sticking with my gut instinct and turning around as SOON as I see a salon that looks like that one did..
