J Spot Hair Salon in Atlanta, GA

Although I was happy with my look in locs (this was my 1st time ever getting locs), the damage to my hair after the 3rd install was devastating, as I cringed on the inside when my locs were removed. I definitely insisted on bringing my own locs for better manageability and preference but would have appreciated the licensed professional advising against the prolonged timeframe in keeping the locs in. I was repeatedly encouraged (by this stylist) to keep my locs in for 3 months at the 3rd install (the 1st 2 installs, I kept the locs in for a very short length of time by my own merits of caution). Why did my hair break off in enormous amounts after the 3rd install and I even lost a loc, thus leaving a nice chunk of edges out in the abyss. There was no acknowledgement or accountability on the stylist's part. Who does that??? I have worn weave for over 10 years and never lost my edges or length because my weave stylist is great at hair care and cares about all of her clients equally. However while surfing fake-a-gram and being advised by 'this' stylist that locs cause less tension than weave--Lies, after 3 months of locs, I lost half my edges on one side and about 4 inches of hair. I paid dearly for a nice look on the outside yet less than sub par hair care. I guess I should have trusted google over the licensed professional in this case. Google said do not leave locs in for over 4- 6 weeks, any longer will cause a lot of breakage/damage to the hair. My only saving grace is that I have a curly hair pattern so the damage is not very noticeable at all in natural styling. I am now in a state of repair due to lack- luster hair care. Maybe just maybe if I had some form of 'status', my advisement may have been more transparent. Do I think the harm was intentional? No, but neglectful, yes. Inform and advise accordingly. The pledge is to do no harm. Much harm was done here. Note to self, Everything that shines like glitter on Instagram ain't gold. Unfortunately, this was my personal experience. I hope this does not happen to anyone else. The lack of empathy makes the experience a lot worse.

This wasn't my first visit to J Spot Salon. My first experience was fantastic which is why I came back a second time. When I went today, I was appalled to see that 7 out of the 9 people (including ourselves) in the establishment were NOT wearing masks. We were so fearful of the risk of catching COVID that we had to leave mid service. I wasn't even aware that businesses were allowed to operate without masks. Overall extremely disappointing and unsettling experience.

I took my son here to get his hair cut for his second birthday. I was familiar with the stylist's work on other clients of all ages and wanted to go to her to ensure that the cut would be done right. I was a little nervous because of him being so young, but Iesha did a wonderful job on the cut and style. She also gave me tips on what to use to maintain the look. The other barber was also very friendly and good with children. I honestly believe every one in J Spot has great skills and fun personalities. Iesha was a natural with kids. My son was able to relax and enjoy two lollipops. The atmosphere was very inviting and upscale. I highly suggest coming in with a small child because they will make you and your child feel comfortable.This is definitely the environment to unwind and get dolled up. They have a salon side and a barber side. Appointments are required. I made my appointment about ten days in advance. They also have services for the grown ups, so I may have to come in for a wash and set or a sew in. Seems like the perfect place to pamper for a big day. I will definitely be back for another hair cut for my little one.
