Hartwood Salon in North Liberty, IA

I am very displeased with the service I received and I took so many steps to make sure something like this didn't happen and it did. I was also told many times this service could be done properly before having it officially done before my hair was ruined. I waited around a year to get my hair colored because I had saved up and wanted to find the right person to do it. I had gotten my hair done at HABA Salon back when another hair stylist had colored it and they had done an amazing job. I had done some searching in the area and I had found Ally the "Curly Hair Specialist" on The Hartwood Salon website, and I was hopeful for this experience. I had an initial consult
with her first to make sure it was made clear exactly what I wanted to be done. I showed her my inspiration picture and she got to see what type of hair I had. I told her my prior experiences of some minor errors that had occurred in the past a different salon with my hair and she told me, "We wouldn't need more than one session." I also mentioned to her that I specifically wanted blonde all over which is why I chose her. I wanted someone that understood how to color hair and knew how to do it properly. I also showed her my previous hair colorings to demonstrate what I had gotten done and that was also my goal. I just wanted to be BLONDE. I then go in for my appointment on 05/09/2023 and there were some hiccups along the way that she said she wasn't worried about, and that I should trust the process. I wanted there to not be dark roots and I wanted the color to really shine through. I trusted the process and at the end of the session I see that there are sections of my hair that are unevenly colored, my roots are dark, and its colored COPPER. My hair isn't blonde whatsoever and it's COPPER/RED. I cried all night and into the next day because I spent $350 with a tip to get my hair-colored BLONDE but instead it was COPPER. I have never experienced this with any stylist before and I was so surprised with a curly hair "expert" that this happened. My hair has NEVER had issues lifting for blonde in the past no matter how many times it has gotten dyed. When I called the next day, she told me that she "expected more color to lift" and that she'd retouch the roots but "if I wanted to get to the blonde I would have to pay another $300". I was so sad to hear this because in our consult she never once mentioned this was a possibility that her products would not be able to produce blonde results. She specifically told me one session would be enough or else I would never have booked this appointment and I would have taken my money elsewhere. So, when she tried to tell me on the phone "It isn't the stylist's fault" it was very sad to hear I had no options and that I had to keep the color that was given to me. Then at the second appointment, she had another excuse saying I "refused gloss" which is why my roots were black but I never refused any service to get my hair blonde. I mentioned it to her during the initial appointment she was missing all of my roots. She frankly just messed up my hair.  I am very disheartened by this experience because I love my curls, and this really broke my heart. I think this color can be good for others, but this is not what I showed her, this is not what we discussed, and this is not the color I requested. If you have any doubt, you can't lift color in someone's hair, I deeply feel it should be shared instead of their money being wasted. This has ruined my hair color and I am now so sad over how my hair looks. Please do not go to this salon if you are a person of color. I highly do not recommend getting your money wasted and then the feeling of having your hair looking bad afterward. It is truly heartbreaking.

I went in a few weeks ago to switch up my color (I before was a really grown out blonde and wanted to go dark for the fall). I showed Wendi a picture of what I was looking for and she made my hair look absolutely perfect! She even talked me into doing some blue-black lowlights for dimension which made me nervous at first but she was totally right about how good it would look and I'm so happy I listened to her. She was incredibly friendly, confident and experienced and I normally feel nervous going to new places to get my hair done, but Wendi made it a great experience! It was the happiest I've felt after getting my hair done in a very long time and it felt so much healthier too. A few weeks later and the color still looks great and hasn't faded much at all (We used a semi-permanent dye). Love!

Emilie did my blonde hair for me and gave me exactly what I wanted. Nightmare after nightmare kept happening to me and I began to think I might not get my beautiful blonde back. So glad I went to Emilie and so happy with her work. If you want great blonde, go to her!  She will also have you laughing the whole visit!

The best salon in town!! They always have a salon in IC and you can call and book at either place! Stylists are always so friendly and inviting! Also, the decor and atmosphere is perfect for NL!

I just had the best salon experience I've had in a very long time. Making an appointment was so easy. Lots of flexibility and different stylist to choose from plus they have a sister salon in Iowa city! The salon is so beautiful and the service couldn't get any better. Wendi was so knowledgeable it's like she knew exactly what I was wanting she corrected the mess that was on my head and left me crying happy tears! I couldn't be happier with my experience and am looking forward to returning.
