Hair's Kay Beauty Salon in New Haven, CT

Traumatic. She tried to make me feel horrible about my hair and spoke to me like a child while ripping my hair out of my scalp...it took a lot to step foot into another salon.

TLDR; Will ruin your curls!

I'll keep this short. Ms. Kay clearly harbors some anti-natural hair feelings bc if you go to her for a blowout or straightening she WILL damage your hair. She has no regard for wanting to protect your natural hair texture. I went to her for a wash and press for a school ceremony. My hair was LAID, but trust when I went to wash it weeks later, my hair texture was several times looser and no amount of protein treatments would help. She gave me severe heat damage.

She also has a way of talking down to you during the "consultation," to make you feel like you can't take care of your hair and to guilt you into paying for her absurd special conditioning treatments. Don't fall for it.

If you're rocking 2C mixed girl waves, I'm sure you'll have no problem with Ms. Kay. But if you have real kinks and coils that need extra care, DO NOT GO TO HER.

I was looking for a salon that could properly care for my dense tightly coiled fragile natural hair. Kay did an amazing job handling my hair with great care. She promotes heathy hair habits. The service was prompt and the salon was clean. Kay keeps the atmosphere positive. It was a pleasant experience.

The best hair salon I've been too! My hair and my 11yo daughter's natural hair are well cared for and healthy. The salon is relaxing, and the owner provides excellent customer experience, as well as expertise in hair care for all hair types. We've been going for 5 years, and have also learned how to take care of our hair in between visits. So happy we've found Hair's Kay!

I'm so glad I took the leap of faith and went to Kay' salon after having just having read reviews on yelp. She is amazing! She listened to my concerns and asked me specifics about my current hair care regimen before starting anything. I then had a  much needed clarifying wash, moisture treatment, steaming, conditioning, and twist out which turned out gorgeous. I also had a trim. She was also very gentle with my natural hair and tender scalp. It's been three weeks and my hair looks so much healthier. No more dullness here!
The salon itself is the cutest spot ever and everyone is very friendly. I'll definitely come back with photos.
