They gave me lice when I went there. Blamed my kids. Asked where they go to school. To this day I have ZERO kids.

I wish that there was a way to give a zero rating. This place is abhorrent. First and foremost, their sanitary procedures and teaching of their students is far below standard. I was a student who attended this cosmetology program while also in high school. This used to be considered an elective credit, and was paid for, in full, by Moses Lake high school. When I was first enrolled in cosmetology school, there were rumors that the high school was going to drop their funding for the program. I was told that even if that was so, me and my fellow classmates were grandfathered into the program because we had started our hours before that initiative passed. This turned out to be a disgusting lie that me and my classmates found out just weeks before we had finished our 1,750 hours of practice in that salon. (By the way, the state of Washington only require 1600 hrs. in order to test for your cosmetology license, but Blades is allowed to withhold hour hours until you complete all 1750 of their requirement.) Our parents were forced to start paying out of pocket to the tune of thousands so that we could finish our hours. I can't even begin to tell you about the horrible things we as students endured there. Verbal abuse, harassment if we didn't show up looking like airbrushed models, there was severe favoritism, and the owner used every opportunity he could to shake us for money. (Like, sending us home because we came to school in a pony tail, but charging us for the day.) Mind you, the majority of the students were high schoolers. One girl was all but turned away because it was against her religion to wear makeup, and you were required to wear makeup. (I'm not sure how they got away with this, or how this specific instance played out, but I do know that the girl above did not end up attending.) On a good day, we might actually finish a lesson and learn how to do something. The teachers at this place were, when I attended, not fit to be teaching. There wasn't even a real teacher for the estheticians, yet they somehow got away with offering it as a class. They started teaching their secretary how to do nails so that they could get her tested as their manicurist instructor. The teachers had no technique, no real qualifications or talent and were subpar hair dressers themselves, to say the least. I can't tell you how many times I asked an instructor for help, only to have them completely botch the look my client was going for. Weekends were the worst. We never knew what kind of mood the owner or his "staff" (but mostly the owner) would be in. We never had solid proof, but there was a large amount of people that suspected him of some sort of drug abuse. Some morning he would come in like a typhoon and start yelling at all of the students with an unjustified temper and blood shot eyes. Some mornings he came in like a ray of sunshine. He had security cameras placed in the room where we practiced and would sit and watch/listen to us, just waiting for someone to do something slightly condemnable. On mornings like this, we weren't allowed to talk or take breaks. If you spoke, you could be sent home and still expected to pay for your full day of schooling. Don't even get me started on their insane attendance policy. Kids with real emergencies ended up owing hundreds of dollars in "attendance fees" because that's just how they are there. As another reviewer mentioned, The owner of Blades On Broadway also owns Cascade Quarter Horses. I have also seen the abuse that takes place on their farm. I saw horses with bloodied sides and mouths from excessive spur and bit abuse and neglect of the most basic needs. Their farm hand has supposedly grown up showing and training horses and is a high caliber horseman, but I personally witnessed this man hauling off and beating a horse for not performing well enough. Bottom line is don't do business with these people. They try to hang with the most well-to-do people in the area, but they hide many many dirty secrets about themselves and their business. I wish more people would speak up about their experiences with them. Not as clients, whom only see the best, but as students or other people that have interacted with them on a day to day basis.

The owner of this place also owns Cascade Quarter Horses. They leased a mare from me for breeding purposes. The neglected her. Three weeks after getting her back (her feet were horrible, under weight by 300lbs, and had a suspected infection), she died. They cared less. Do not do business with these people. Carless, heartless.
