Dominican styles #1 in Portsmouth, VA

My first time here I had a great experience. I was there all day but the finished product was amazing. When it was time for me to schedule a second appointment, that's where the issue begins. She doesn't answer the phone and I know that for a fact because when I was there people where calling and she didn't answer the phone. I go to the nail salon next door so when I went to go get my nails done I saw that she was opened and made an appointment for the next day. She even gave me her schedule book to place my appointment. When I got to the shop for my second appointment she was not there and the shop was closed. This is the owner. When I had my first appointment I explained to her how the customer service around Portsmouth was just horrible no matter where you go and it was very hard to find a professional Dominican hair salon in this area. She agreed and insured me she was not like that. I make an appointment and I don't receive a call nor a text or a heads that she won't be able to make my appointment.

I love love love this salon. I was recommended by a family member almost 6yrs ago. I have thick, curly and wavy in some spots non chemically treated natural hair that I don't have time to care for and (don't like to) comb properly on my own. I am never turned away no matter what time of day I show up. We all know that my hair is a 4 to 6 hour job. Ms Gilda takes her time and never complains. She never cuts the knots out like I ask her to when I get impatient. She keeps going unfazed by my complaints of me taking up her time. When I get out of her chair the blow out in my hair is photo shoot ready. When I want to rock a natural style Rita makes me look beautiful also. It still takes 2 to 3 hours but I have a carefree natural style that last minimum 3 weeks if I remember to tie it up at night. I feel like I get not only amazing hair care at a reasonable price (awesome weekday specials) but they really care about my hair. I get hair care lessons each visit. No. It is not just to upsell me on their products. I have never been pushed into purchasing their products. You have to go try them out for your self. Don't let someone's negative experience ruin what could be the best experience for your hair. Remember you get what you give. If you treat people with respect and kindness they treat you the same in return.

Went in to make an appointment. I hear mixed reviews. It's a lot of people getting their hair done so that's a good sign.

I love it here. With curly hair, it's hard to find someone to do a good job and care for my hair properly(without being to harsh) so I was happy to find this place. I always have a good experience. I even brought my friend this time

I called the other day and made an appointment for this morning at 9am. Unfortunately. I waited for an hour and the stylist never showed up. I will be going somewhere else from now on.
