D K Salon in Oakley, CA

Found this salon in downtown by chance and booked with Aurora for a cut, color and highlights. I just love her, she's super talented and so sweet. I am so happy with my color and feel very lucky to have stumbled upon such a gem! Highly recommend!!

Where do I begin!? Karen has been doing my hair ever since I was a teen around 14 years old, I am now. Not once did I ever leave disappointed, she is a hair GURU. When she was gone for a while, for personal reasons, I was lost! Not one person has ever been able to do my hair as perfect as her, everything from cut to color to keeping it nice and healthy and recommending the perfect products only when I ask for them. I left for a few years and no one seemed to be able to cut, color or style my hair like Karen, so I settled for what I could and pricing always killed my pocket book. I recently returned to the area (Walnut Creek, actually) and heard she was back in the salon and booked an appointment as soon as humanly possible. Not only are her prices on point compared to pricey Walnut Creek, I ALWAYS leave with a smile on my face, money well spent and time to catch up with someone I've known for many many years. I recommend DK Salon to ANYONE in the Bay Area, even if you have to drive a half hour or an hour or even an hour and a half, Karen is worth it. I am so excited to see what magic she makes happen next week at our appointment, I am looking forward to it more than Christmas! Aurora books me when I'm in town every other year or so. She's usually the last one I've seen so my hair has grown out with zero shape or I've chopped my bangs myself or done something else probably mortifying to any professional. She's always so sweet and accommodating and gives me exactly what I'm looking for. She never pushes their products at me, and she compliments my natural color saying she hopes I never get it colored - even when I'm already considering it and it would probably be easy to push me into doing it. Always my best interests at heart. I even came in a couple years ago with an awkward lob, no idea what to do with it but I had heard of some obscure technique that could maybe cut down on the helmet, triangle head look. She somehow figured out what I wanted and saved me. Today I came in with AWFUL chopped bangs and horrible scattered layers, and she evened everything out and gave me beautiful shape and body. And if you need any more convincing, the price is unbeatable for such a great haircut. Santa Barbara salons used to charge me anywhere from $60-$80 for a wash and trim (I have no color, no special requests, just flat rate) and this is half that! Thanks Aurora!

I love the salon! Amity is the one who colored my hair! I went from an ugly golden orange to a sexy blond. I love my new hair. She really makes sure you are happy with your hair and takes her time with you. She is great with my thick hair. Its hard to find someone to cut it right and she does it flawlessly! Ok will be coming back to her always!! Thank you sooo much I'm sooooo in love with my hair!

After searching around for a hairstylist I called DK salon and asked if they used Olaplex, the girl that answered the phone told me they did and that Karen would call me back to make the appointment. She called me back first thing the next day. And I scheduled an appointment for the same day, that was 2/19. When I went in Karen recognized me as I had been a client of hers at her previous salon a few years back. I had been growing out my hair and had a dark brow to reddish brown like ombre. I showed her pictures of what I wanted which was based on the picture description a blonde baylage, I also showed her a picture ofmyself with bleach blonde hair from a couple years ago. I specifically asked for the Olaplex because I was told if I wanted to go blonde they recommend that to make it blonder and prevent damage. It took about 15 minutes for Karen to apply all the product and my hair is thick. After being under the dryer her assistant took over and washed and toned my hair. When she proceeded to style it I noticed my hair was darker than the color I went in with. It looked nothing like what I had asked her for. Meanwhile Karen kept working with other clients, a total of 3 while u was there. I let her assistant finish and then I went to pay, she said the was an extra charge for the Olaplex and charged a total of $225. I was furious because my hair looked nothing like what I asked for. I didn't want to make a scene in front of the other customers so I paid and called Karen that same night to tell her I was not happy. I spoke with her the next day and she seemed irritated and was l li k e I don't know what you want, and I told her I wanted blonde not darker. I asked her if she thought she could do it and she said yes and set up and appointment for the following Saturday 2/28. Unfortunately had to cancel 2 days prior to the appointment because if a family emergency and I let her know. I texted her to reschedule and she said she would not be available until 3/18. Even though I was unhappy with the color of my hair I waited to give her a second chance. So I went in today for my appointment and I showed her pictures again she had a bit of an attitude and did not talk at am during the process. Again her assistant did the rest. She definitely did blonde but to me that's foil highlights not baylage like old foil highlights from 15 years ago. I decided to buy a dry shampoo suggested by her assistant. Then I go to pay and she adds another $75, for a total of $109. And said that is because It's been to long since the last procedure and she had to use more product. I paid and walked out. I will definitely not be going back. I don't understand why if she didn't do what I requested to begin with and then could not accommodate me sooner she feels I should have to pay more. I am not happy with the service the color and she is ridiculously overpriced.
