Cala Renee Salon LLC in Beverly, MA

I went to Cala Renee's over a decade ago a few times. But drifted away. Recently I wanted to try a Rezo haircut and was able to get one here, at Cala Renee's. I made an appointment with Katerina. She was great. She felt I was a good candidate for a Reno cut, and she was right. The way my hair falls now is wonderful and so easy to maintain. She was also able to work with me on a plan for the future. Highly recommend Katerina. Can't wait to see her again.

Do NOT go to this salon if you want a proper balayage for curly hair. I have never been more disappointed or betrayed by a salon in my life, especially with how I was treated by the salon after the service. I was incredibly excited for my appointment for a balayage and cut, but left with stringy, completely unblended highlights. I have had balayages at other salons for a decade and was confused why the service came out like it had. In shock, I felt like I had to go through the motions so I paid and left. However, the more I sat with it the more humiliated I felt. I went to another salon that was recommended to me by family to get a second opinion and the stylists there were absolutely horrified. The new salon said it was going to take an entire day to get my hair presentable, and at least another whole session to get it to look how I originally wanted it to be. I am not a confrontational person by nature but my new salon, countless friends, and family encouraged me to get a refund. After explaining the situation to the receptionist I was told that Cala had just stepped out but she'd call me back in half an hour. I had no problem with this, but half an hour quickly became an hour and a half. So I called back to inquire about my refund. I was told that the stylists were very busy and would call me back soon. Soon turned to another hour. The last time I called I was told no one could speak to me until 7pm. So you're telling me I needed to wait 5+ hours just to even SPEAK to someone about getting a refund for a service that wasn't what I even paid for. For reference balayages START at $170 and are the most expensive service offered. I wound up paying $300 for a cut and "balayage" and $65 for a tip. What I left with is very clearly not a balayage. I was patient and understanding until they started to send my calls directly to voicemail. That told me everything I needed to know. This salon is despicable. Again, if you value your curls DO NOT GO HERE. I have never left a negative review for a business in my entire life, but you do not treat people like this especially if you are at fault.

I have a lot of curly grey hair. My daughter is a hair stylist in NY and before I moved back to Massachusetts, I'd go to her salon. We have the same hair (except for color) and I trusted her absolutely to advise me on hair styles and give me cuts that look up to date and flattering. Now that I'm in MA, it's too far to go so I've been researching stylists and salons that specialize in curly hair. I tried one salon when I first moved here and although the stylist was skilled and I was happy with the cut, it felt very rushed. There was no time for consultation first and I definitely got an ageist vibe from the rest of the salon, which felt very unwelcoming, although not from my stylist. It was also not inexpensive and I didn't like feeling like I should just be grateful that they gave me an appointment. I then let my hair grow out and did some more research. I liked all the reviews I read on multiple sites for the Cala Renee Salon in Beverly and booked an appointment. They have a required pre-check in form online, asking for a picture of my hair. I also sent pictures of styles I wanted to aim for. On the day of my appointment, everyone in the place was really friendly. It was a relaxed but professional atmosphere. They even advised me where to find a working parking kiosk so I wouldn't get a ticket. My stylist, Steph, was lovely. She spent a long time talking to me about my hair, and was really accommodating as I'd just pulled my back earlier that day. She gave me a lumbar cushion to be more comfortable in the chair. She looked again at the pictures I'd sent and we talked about my concerns - how my hair was changing and how to cut to show it off at its best. We started conversing about common interests and before I knew it, my hair was transformed, better than I hoped it might turn out! The cut itself didn't take long and the time flew as we were chatting. I then had it washed and was sent back to Steph to have it styled, followed by sitting under the dryer and and then styled again with some products, as she explained in detail why she'd chosen them for me. At no point did she try and sell me any, which I so appreciate. I was there for a total of two hours, feeling very heard, welcomed, and taken seriously, and certainly felt I got my money's worth. It was a delightful experience and I'll definitely go back for my next cut.

Amazing with my tween's curly hair. Super knowledgeable and explain everything about how to care for hair at home and the strategy for cutting. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Erin is fab!

I searched for curly hair salons over three years ago, and I was given an appointment with Steph and I've been happily going to Steph every six weeks. Steph is an artist in her field. She works magic with my color and cut (I have thick wavy/curly hair). I look forward to the head massage. Steph is a delight and the ambiance is lovely with big storefront windows that let in the light.
