CaJah Salon in St Paul, MN

I'm a Dakota Woman. I decided to try this salon which is walking distance from where I live. I booked a full highlight with cut. I wanted it done for my vacation so I was on a time crunch. I booked with Madison. In the notes I wrote I'd like balayage. She texted me saying she doesn't do balayage. I should have headed that warning and had a different stylist but I was anxious to get my hair done in time. I said she can do highlights rather than balayage. My hair turned out be satisfactory but the bad experience came from when she rinsed out the highlights. While at the sink she brushed out the highlights so hard that I was in pain the entire time as she pulled my hair with her brush. I have long hair so the pulling and pain lasted a while. I've had highlights done since I was in my twenties and I'm Now in my fourties. I had never experienced this at a salon. I've experienced my hair being pulled by bullies and my abusive ex, but never at a salon. My scalp was sore for days and I had PTSD from this experience. After a couple weeks to give this bad experience some time to heal emotionally, I decided to text her to let her know what happened. In the text I told her my experience and also that she surely knew what she was doing since she had 20 years experience doing hair. I was sure hair came out in the brush although she said no hair was in the sink. Not to mention when we were at the sink she was whispering with her coworker behind my head which I thought was rude and asked her if everything was ok. In the text, Her response was that brushing out backcomb can be tricky and she didn't mean to be "rough" and asked if there's anything she can do now. There really isn't anything that can be done as the damage is done. I asked her to be more mindful about it so it won't happen to another person. I don't know what her problem was that day but she shouldn't have taken it out in me. Needless to say I will not go here again or suggest anyone I care about to go here either.

Got a great haircut from Olivia. She was very sweet and did a great job. Took from 4:45-6:30 ish all in.

Was told by receptionist this salon specializes in curly hair cuts. It is an overstatement. My stylist demonstrated very little about how to cut curly hair starting with a wet cut, having to ask for a diffuser from a colleague, and finishing the cut and "style" in half the time other stylist take to cut my curls and waves. He probably is very good with non curls or non textured hair.

Wonderful professional cut from James Peter who is new to this salon but definitely not new to the biz, tons of experience and came highly recommended. From his L.A. resume (so I felt fortunate to get in to see him before biz takes off) He has traveled to San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, New York and Washington D.C. for A-list celebrities Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz, Heidi Klum, Amanda Bynes, Shakira, and Denise Richards. Fun to chat with, hair feels fabulous and just what I needed for summer. Did not upsell me anything but I'll have a color done in the future.

Elizabeth has been doing my hair for the last few years! I love having someone who does my curly hair so right! I often get the calligraphy cut which uses a special tool! I find my curls looking extra bouncy! My color services have always been wonderful with Elizabeth! I love to mix it up my color but she has also helped me find a color that is low maintenance for me and looks absolutely beautiful! My hair is so healthy! I love this salon!
