Blo Blow Dry Bar in Homewood, AL

Booked an appointment over a week in advance & show up to being told my appointment was cancelled by the system & there was only an appointment available right before my event today. So, that obviously wouldn't work. I'm extremely disappointed & annoyed. I wasted over 45 minutes driving to & from this business & now the plans I had for my hair are cancelled along with any future business from me. Don't waste your time!

I've come here a few times. Normally decent service. Today, my appt was going to be delayed a whole hour. No phone call or anything. I had an appt right behind this one so had to leave without getting hair done. I don't know why they can't make a simple phone call to tell you they will be late. You, on the other hand, will be penalized for being late. Some of the stylists are goods others not so much.

So I came here to get my daughter a blowout (including getting hair washed) with her hair styled in an up do, and makeup. (And that is what I payed for and made the appointment for prior to coming) when I got there they were late to starting on her but I brushed it off and the first thing they did was her makeup. I thought this was kind of weird considering she was about to get her hair washed and the water could come onto her face but I let it go. After the makeup was done we sat and waited for someone to do her hair for about 30 minutes. And once the girl got to her hair the owner came over and was looking through her hair and said to the hair stylist (where I could hear) that it was extremely dirty and they needed to wash it. She proceeded to tell me It would be extra money 1- to wash it and 2- because it is so curly and thick...(I told them her hair type before coming)  So, I was very confused because that was what I had already payed for and I asked her about it and she said that I did not book it but I did and it was sent on the confirmation. They told me that they we're going to wash her hair and if any makeup smeared or anything they would fix it (they were very passive aggressive) once her hair was washed and now dried my daughter showed the hair stylist the hair style she wanted which was an up do. The manager came over and said it would be extra once again. So I was Confused yet again because I had payed for an up do. The hair did end up looking great but it was a horrible experience and my daughter left crying because she was treated so badly and felt like she was an inconvenience even though they are there for our convince. She also did not like the makeup because she asked for a natural look but the concealer they used was just about white as paper and her skin tone is tan so it did not match. I should also mention that During the appointment my daughters friend was there, and looking back on it I can tell they probably got us confused and gave my daughters appointment to her considering that they took our start time even though theirs was after ours. Never coming back. I also think the manager/owner is the problem in most cases as you can also tell by the other reviews. Most of the stylist seem nice and friendly.

I went to Blo Blow for the first time last week and had a great experience. The hair stylist gave me the exact style I wanted and made sure I was happy with it throughout each step in the process.

I'm beyond fed up with this place. I've given it chance after chance, but no more. The only concern of this salon is making money. All of their policies are 1 sided. This review is not a result of the way my hair looked,  the stylist's work was perfect. I get a blowout each week, but due to unforeseen circumstances I to cancel with my regular stylist & being the week of Christmas, he was booked & it couldn't be rescheduled. I've gone to Blo off & on for about 5 yrs. In the very beginning I was pleased, but then things started to change.  This concept is great, but the execution is in need of major change.
I have extremely thick hair & I realize this, but the price I was charged was exorbitant. It was $79 for my blowout & then $10 tip. I booked extended time, but that was not enough. It has never taken this length of time to get a blowout anywhere. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the style I requested. It wasn't fancy or for a special occasion.
 The owner comes over & states that any time over the time booked is $15 for 15 minutes. The initial cost of the blowout was $64 which was for 1hr & 15 minutes.
I shouldn't be held responsible for paying for extra due to the fact that this stylist doesn't work as fast as others. That's not on me. If stylists can't do a style in the allotted time, it should be said up front & I should be placed with someone who can.
To top it off, the  were about 19 minutes late starting. Initially, they tried to charge me for an additional 30 minutes & had I not been watching my clock, they would have.
The girl who washed my hair was not the same as the stylist. I asked her to scrub my hair very hard, but the back is still dirty.
The website states that you should arrive 5 minutes early. If you're 5 minutes late, they start the clock & charge you for this. Not only was I 5 minutes early, they were 15 minutes late. There was no concession for this. Everything here is one sided. There wasn't even a apology.
The owner micromanages all of the stylists watching how much product they use & constantly telling them how long they've been working, or to do something differently, creating a horrible, stressful atmosphere. The turnover due to the treatment of the stylists is ridiculous. It's rare that I see the same stylist.
She also steps in to do hair when they are busy. She has no cosmology license.
If you look at the places where you can leave reviews, you'll not see hardly anything negative ones bc they get erased. The few that are there have replies from her always placing what went wrong on the client.
You're also guilted into tipping (not by the stylist, but by whomever is at the desk). A tip is just that & it's up to the discretion of the client, not something you should be coerced into doing.
