Ash & Gold Salon in Middletown, DE

This review has been coming for weeks now. I needed to let my hair heal before getting it fixed somewhere else to make a point.

BEWARE of the Balayage LOL for real ... ask to see work done by your particular stylist BEFORE you let them touch your head. Most of the staff are very young and seem inexperienced. I should've listened to the other reviewers who said this is a place best suited for very young women/girls ... it feels like shopping at Forever 21 as an adult.

They have super young stylists and that's fine just know youth and inexperience go hand-in-hand. Mistakes happen and they suck but if handled correctly it's no big deal. What should never happen is poor customer service from the owner. When you mess up don't make excuses just make it right and learn. It's really that simple. Do the right thing. Give people their money back if you agreed to provide them with a result that you weren't able to come even close to producing. Especially when you were given two chances to get it right. That would be the mature way to remedy the situation but again ... youth is their Achilles heel.

In a nutshell ... all I wanted was some foil highlights that looked natural ... instead I was told it'd only work with the more expensive balayage technique so I agreed. $260, two trips, and two stylists later ... I ended up with the worst hair of my entire life. Morgan is one of their young stylists and despite her efforts produced a warm reddish blonde one dimensional look that didn't resemble what I asked for or a balayage at all (see picture 2). After emailing the owner, Ashley, asking for a refund of half of the payment amount so I could go get it done by someone I trust she asked me to let her try to fix it. I agreed and I would've been better off sticking with Morgan's work, honestly. Ashley got two blonde money pieces framing my face but the rest looked awful, especially the back of my head which looked very red and within 3 weeks I looked like a splotchy calico cat (see pictures 3-5). Dirty copper penny isn't a shade of blonde ... just saying.

If you go there I hope your experience is better than mine. I know that Bern does beautiful work. So if you must go to Ash & Gold for whatever reason ask for her

Poor customer service and customer advocacy, unprofessional and greedy. I was a customer at ASH & GOLD for over a year, and spoke on the phone with the owner Ashley about how my hair did not turn out how I requested, and how I got my root melt/highlights done in the past with the stylist Bernadette. This was the first time I had an issue at the salon. A root melt was not performed on my hair (as per my request), and my roots looked terrible after 3-4 weeks post appointment. Ashley, the, business owner was not hearing what I was explaining and kept pushing another paid appointment while I expressed how dissatisfied I was with my hair and felt it was unfair to charge again. Following my phone call with Ashley, I received a legal disclosure threatening that I will not be covered legally if my hair is damaged or personal injury occurs. Oh my. The legal disclosure covers ASH & GOLD's business but not the safety or satisfaction of ANY client. In other words, Ashley and the salon do not advocate for a dissatisfied customer and want to rip customers off, even if their hair wasn't fixed or it got damaged. Buyers Beware. "Customers are usually right" when they have an issue. The owner and stylist should work to satisfy a customer who spent $300 monthly average at their business. I sent pictures of my hair, which clearly showed a very harsh root line after a few weeks. Having to pay again, and sign legal disclosures does not come across well and I will be taking my business elsewhere. The salon also sneaks in a "shine treatment" to charge more at the end of your appointment. This  situation could have easily been resolved if the owner listened to a dissatisfied customer, and handled it professionally and fairly. I have gone to very high end salons in Pennsylvania and New York and have never encountered such unprofessionalism and greed.

I got my hair done here by Ashley for my Junior Prom and it was such a great experience she was so amazing and it was so fun to get my hair done by her. The vibe was fantastic and I will definitely be switching to this place for my main salon! :)

While the stylist, Morgan, was very pleasant and eager to please, the rest of the experience is lackluster. Morgan lacks experience and was not able to do an undercut without enlisting the help of a co-worker. The salon itself is poorly equipped or, if the stylists must supple their own tools and products, that also is a problem.  My stylist did not have her preferred curling wand size.
The reviews on Ash and Gold's website read as though they were written by the same 1 or 2 people.
One more note- unless you're under 22, don't expect to go and have a relaxing experience.  The minute you walk in the door loud boom-boom music greets you.
The most positive thing I can say is that the wash bowl was quite comfy!

advertised as a experienced salon specializing in bayalage i booked a appointment for 12 pm on 3/17 for my hair to be colored from its current state to blonde, my hair was blonde  had fashion colors in that needed to be removed . 40 min after my appointment time my stylist is finally ready to begin with me . With the cancellation policy being that you will be charged for half the service booked if canceled less than 24hrs prior , I arrived early to my appointment so I find this very frustrating from the start,    I explained I understood if the hair needed to be a bit of a darker blonde look than what I was wanting due to the fashion colors, was asked if I considered brown , absolutely not I want to leave with blonde hair so when my natural blonde grows in it looks appropriate . 3 hours later my hair Was done as a " rooted" look, which is very dark brown all through my hair with blonde ends. After spending in total 4hours at this salon and almost 300 I left with wet brown and blonde hair .
