So, after going to Monique throughout the pandemic (yes, I know I am loyal) I have moved to NYC, and I drive up 2 hours to see her.
There are no shortage of braiders in NY but what sets her apart is her professionalism, genuine care for the health of your hair, creativity and speed. She is so open to feedback, and trying new techniques/products, and encourages me to get out of my comfort zone of 1B safety.
I will gladly continue to brave 15/I-95 traffic to see her.
I've been to Monique twice now and can say without hesitation that she's my go to stylist for all things braid and protective styles. The first style was goddess locs and she had me in and out in 4.5 hours. As a reference point, my hair is shoulder length. The goddess locs looked amazing and I received lots of compliments. They weren't so tight that I had a headache but they were certainly secure and lasted 6 weeks. They were easy to take out too! My second visit was an interlocked crochet goddess loc style and I'm loving it! I'm getting lots of compliments on this style as well. In addition to being a super talented stylist, Monique is responsive (always answers my questions), friendly and provides her services in a clean, private salon. I highly recommend her for your next protective style.
Monique does an excellent job, we have gone to her twice so far for my daughter's braids and we couldn't be happier! She is quick to respond to questions and very helpful regarding styles and hair care in general. We won't go anywhere else!
