April Nails & Day Spa in Palmyra, VA

I just moved to the area and wanted to find a salon close to my home. My nail tech in Chicago warned me not to let anyone put a Dremel to my nails so I visited the shop first to ask how they did their no-chip manicures. Just a light Dremel to take the shine off the old polish which I thought would be fine. The prices seemed fair so I made a Saturday 1 pm appointment. I walked in and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged that I was there because the man was busy talking to the 2 clients at the pedicure station. When he finished his story with them, he finally looked up and asked why I was there. Okay, let's see how this goes. He takes the top shine off my nails with the Dremel and then followed normal procedure to soak the polish off. While he was working on my nails, he kept visiting a video on his phone and making comments to me that I couldn't understand. I couldn't believe he was so distracted and disrespectful as he did this the entire time I was there. So my polish is off and he's shaping my nails, next thing I know, he's taking the Dremel to my nails and cuticles - WHAT? Never pushed back the cuticle with the normal tools, never saw a pair of nippers. Then he proceeds to apply the base coat, 3 coats of the color, plus a heavy layer of top coat. During this process, he was asking me questions as if I had been a previous customer. I told him this was my first visit - he didn't even register. I will absolutely never, ever go there again and honestly, can't believe they still have any business. Less than poor service and total disrespect for clients. I went to another salon and it was not only extremely difficult to remove the shellac even after soaking, once the polish was removed, there was significant damage to my nails: Dremel marks, split nails, etc. My nails have always been hard and strong; part of that is my DNA but it's also due to having a great nail tech. I rarely write reviews but this experience was so bad and the result was so damaging, I just had to let others know what to expect.

I arrived when they opened with a young friend. Saw two cockroaches, coffee spills that never got cleaned up & basically not a very clean establishment. They do not use pedicure tub liners, so you are at the mercy of their cleaning skills. I was grateful that we were the 1st customers, because I was hoping they do a thorough cleaning of foot baths at night. Not returning.

IMO the best thing about the business is the friendliness of the owners. Then, the cleanliness was good and decorations was bright and cheerful The only problem is the prices. Way overpriced probably because there's not a lot of local competition.

My main problem was that they don't even clean the instruments between customers, and that's just asking for an infection. Three stars because the guy that gave me my pedi was awesome.

I love how nice the workers are and they do a great job. I highly recommend this place if you want a great job done
