I have been going to Alma and Mela monthly to touch up my roots for over a year now, and they are amazing. They treat you like family, always welcoming you with open arms, sweet and personal conversations, and a hot cup of tea or coffee. This is the best and healthiest my hair has ever looked, and I have notoriously difficult hair when it comes to picking up color. I have even seen people come in on several occasions with some hair emergency, but nothing that Alma and Mela could not fix. They even validate parking at the Water Street deck! To sum it up, they are all-around great, and I would recommend this salon to anyone.

I've been going to Alma & Mela and having my hair cut by Mela since I moved to Charlottesville nearly 15 years ago. I'm picky about who cuts my wavy/curly hair and finding a good hairdresser has always been my biggest concern when I move to a new city. I'm so happy that Alma and Mela were recommended to me when I first moved here. Mela even gave my 6 year old her first haircut and my daughter loved her. I recommend them highly!

Alma and Mela are wonderful people. I was recently in a situation where I had a medical device that prevented me from showering for 3 months. I poked my head into their salon one day and asked if they had space to wash my hair in between clients... they happily fit me in. After Alma was finished, I went to the desk to pay for the wash, and she refused. They told me that they would take care of my washes until I was able to shower again. I was so touched. I returned a few times and always left their salon with clean, happy hair and a smile on my face. They made a difficult situation so much better for me just by being generous, nice people. Since then, I've returned for cuts and styles, and I've always been happy with what they do. It's worth noting that every time I go in there they are serving clients who are clearly longtime customers of theirs. They develop personal relationships with their clients, and that goes a long way.

Alma and Mela give the consistently best haircut in town. I have long hair and only get my hair cut about twice a year and my hair always grows out beautifully thanks to their expertise. They are also attentive, very courteous and it is always a pleasure to see them.
