Summit Salon Academy - Tampa in Tampa, FL

I'd like to begin by saying I was an educator here from 1/21-1/24 ... although I decided to stay 3 years id like to share the discomforts I experienced and a summit educator and things I did not agree with. I've been an educator 11 years now and three of those years took place at this establishment.Never have I ever felt so belittled and placed in a class of ethnicity in a negative manner. I was called ghetto, street, loud, and when I spoke up for myself I was called sensitive and insecure. I was told the places I ate at where lower class and ratchet and even was told to do something about my natural texture of hair "do something with my hair" I was told. I witnessed how people both student and guests outside certain ethnicities where treated very different... how the services offered did not include certain textures or ethnicities and I was wrong for speaking up or agreeing with these same observations when students would also notice. How they would not be given certain tools or implements that are needed to service certain ethnicities. How in meetings they would mock, ridicule, and make offensive comments of certain students. How they use students they have prior talents and take credit for the skill they already had. How they trap the students by neglecting certain aspects of the industry like booth-rental. How they fraudulently enter grades and services to certain students and give others a hard time. How they license educators making them certified in something they cannot even perform just so the academy can be approved of the program. This academy is most def not recommended by me and I'm glad at least I was able to help those in my ethnic class and from my financial background being from lower financial class see there way to success. God please spare others from summit

I have been here twice before and never had an issue. My stylist was amazing and did my color perfectly. But i asked for some face framing pieces and when she was done i asked if she could blend them more. They were closing though so the instructor was rushing her. The instructor came over when i asked for them more blending and instead she bluntly cut farther back with no blending. I just said it was fine, paid and left before anymore damage was done. The hair is cut to far back, and after i went somewhere else to get it fixed, its too short to tuck behind the ears. I have since been bobby pinning it back because i can't have my hair in my face due to work. If i were you i would just come here for a plain color because that's hard to mess up. They really let me leave looking like lord farquad from shrek. The other stylist at the salon i went to get it fixed were thrown aback when they saw how someone could do this.

Brianna was great! She did my hair exactly how I wanted it. Hope to get her again next time.

They offer miltary discounts on hair color and basically everything I love going to this school !!! And the vibe is amazing!!! Can't wait for my next nail and hair appointment coming up !!

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on what student you'd like to work on you beforehand and the instructors themselves don't know what they are doing. I went in to see a specific student who's work I had seen and liked, however upon arrival I was informed she was running behind with a client. I was offered to be seen by another student, to which I agreed. That student was very honest with me (which I very much appreciate) and told me she had not done this specific cut before. I told her I did not feel comfortable and would rather just reschedule. I went up to the front to reschedule for another day, when an older small woman came out and insisted on finding a great student for me. She told me that this student was "really really good". I was then introduced to Sarah (the student) who I then showed inspiration photos to and she happened to actually have the haircut I wanted so there was no miscommunication in what results I was wanting from the haircut. She told me she'd done the haircut I wanted many times before. She was nice, however as soon as she started to cut my hair, she messed up. As soon as she cut a chunk off, she excused herself to get the instructor. David (the instructor) came in and did the rest of my hair cut, so about 90% of my haircut. After my hair was dry, the big chop was extremely evident. I asked if she could fix it and once again David came out and tried to cut a little more. After trying to fix it he explained that I would just have to be patient and wait for it to grow out. I then went to the front to pay and leave. The instructor and student were both extremely aware of the mistake that had happened and they let me walk up to the front and pay. I was not happy with the cut at all, but was in a state of shock from seeing how I ended up lookin. It was not until I got home that I really realized how incredibly awful my hair looked. I called the school and spoke to Kathy, who apologized and issued a refund. She told me that David (the instructor) had explained the whole situation to her after I had left. Kathy was already aware of the mistake that had taken place before I even called...I guess they just hoped I'd never complain. I am not saying that all beauty schools are bad, but I can attest to this particular school not handling matters in a professional or appropriate way. Had the instructor apologized and made sure I left without paying, I would not be leaving this review. I would also like to point out that the smaller older lady should not have insisted on squeezing me in with a student who was "really really good" when I was happy to reschedule to see someone I actually wanted to see. DO NOT let them give you a random student. Do your research ahead of time and make sure the student you request does work that you like. I'd also like to add that David (the instructor) lacks serious experience as the rest of my hair cut looks bad too. It's going to take months to grow this mistake out.
