Shea's Beauty Parlor in Westerly, RI

I am originally from the area, but have lived away for 30 years. I returned to visit and spend time with family. I needed a hair cut and decided to search out a small "mom & pop" local shop to get a haircut. I'm a firm believer in "supporting local." That's exactly what I received at Shea's. Uhngi is a one person operation. Excellent customer service and a fantastic haircut at a reasonable price. I was very pleased and extremely satisfied. Highly recommended. I will defiantly return for a haircut the next time I'm in the neighborhood. Mahalo Uhngi!

I have been getting my hair cut by Uhngi since I was a little little boy- and between changing hair styles, moving to college, and popping back home from time to time I always end up coming back. Uhngi's is excellent - she goes the extra mile to make sure her customers get exactly what they want, and always throws in some great tips towards the end about how to maintain your new/take care of your old look. Price is around $18- much better than what I would pay at a commercial salon! 6/5.

Uhngi Shea is the owner and operator of Shea's Beauty Parlor. Uhngi has been open for about 3-4 years now, maybe longer (I forget). She used to work at a large Westerly establishment and then took off to start her own gig. One day she called me up to tell me to come on over and become a customer.

I really can't judge hair cut quality. I'm a middle aged male who wears his hair short and gets it cut every 4-5 weeks. It can't be too hard to cut my hair. But this is what I like about Uhngi...she complains about the places that charge $30 to cut men's hair. In her own way, she is implying that the client is getting ripped off, i.e., it's an easy hair cut, not too much skill required, not too much hair to cut, etc. And for these reasons, $30 is overpriced for the work performed.

For $18 at Uhngi Shea's, I get a great cut...care and attention to detail, good advice about my hair. I always tip her, and why shouldn't I? With a tip, my cost is still about 30% lower than the rest of the local salons.

Overall, I've been very satisfied with Uhngi since I first became a client. I don't always get my hair cut in Westerly, but when I do, I get it cut at Uhngi Shea's.
