Salon Cienna in Palatine, IL

I purchased a Groupon for a no-chip manicure/ regular pedicure and booked my appointment with Alexa. She did AMAZING. Probably the best painting I've ever received. She was very thorough, and all layers were even and smooth, but not too thick. She did excellent work and was soooo friendly. Highly recommend her!

I found my review from 5 years ago. Then the ownership changed. She never said hello or thank you for coming there. What a difference. It became an awful experience, the owner's children (3 at the time), she would be hollering at them. This is supposed to be relaxing. The prices changes with no notice. My manicurist went somewhere else and I followed her there. I should have realized what was going on as stylists began to leave. I found wonderful people at Ulta in Deer Park and have been there ever since. I am surprised this salon is still open.

I believe this salon merged with one down the street. This place is TRASH. STAY AWAY! I purchased a Groupon for shampoo, cut & style and Morocco oil treatment. Some lady washed my hair and was tugging on my neck and did not care if I was comfortable or not. Then the hair stylist butchered my hair. The haircut looked ridiculous. She then put in oil that wasn't the Morocco oil before telling me that it wasn't that. I had to remind her that the Groupon was for styling. She had a deer in headlights look. I wanted soft waves and they didn't even have a proper curler. I don't think she has ever styled hair. It got to be ridiculous so I told her it was fine and to just leave it. She did not care enough to try and fix it or apologize or literally anything. Then they gave me an attitude about paying with a card. Will never be back.

Salon Cienna definitely seems like more of a hair salon than a nail salon. I purchased a Groupon for a no-chip manicure, and even though I made an appointment ahead of time as suggested the nail technicians seemed super disorganized when I arrived. The manicure was okay though. Alexa did a great job. It was just a weird place/experience for a manicure. I would recommend Alexa's services though.

I came here with a groupon for partial highlight/haircut/conditioning treatment. This was a last minute appointment as I was traveling and desperately needed my hair done--plus it was local so I was excited to have possibly found a go-to salon. Nancy was my stylist and she was very nice but I found my entire experience to be about how my hair was in terrible shape and sales pitched me on how I needed to try products that the salon will "special order". She was very informative and liked to share why she uses certain technique....but then it the appointment took a turn. --The shampoo station water then it started to get VERY hot. I mentioned the temperature being too hot and she didn't act like it was a big deal. She said something under her breath which sounded like "yeah oh well" and then sped up the rinse and towel dried my hair. -- When she was drying my hair she was holding the dryer far too close to my scalp in the beginning...again burning feeling on my scalp. I tolerated it because once she sectioned my hair it got much better. However with the years of experience that she has, it surprised me. (Probably wouldn't have said much but it started to turn into a series of events). -- When my services were complete she directed me to the front where I was encouraged to make another appointment and pay/tip. Anywhere I have ever gotten my hair done, the stylist walked me to the front and then kindly gives me privacy as I am paying and figuring out the tip. Because this was a groupon I wanted to make sure I was gathering an amount that was based off of the full priced service. She stood there and waited for me to share out loud what I was tipping her to the receptionist. It was very uncomfortable. I just didn't find it professional to stare at your client while they are checking out and calculating a tip. Overall my highlights were ok--the haircut was decent (a little choppy with the layers) but I'm ok with it. 3 stars because the services were decent. She knows what she is doing but can be a little bit more careful.
