Prima Salon in Sacramento, CA

writing this review a year after getting my hair done here however i will say i spent $200 to be absolutely nowhere near what i wanted. i was recommended to a stylist (cannot remember her name) by a coworker. i had dyed my hair darker and was looking to get lighter (obviously can't do it over night) so i made an appointment. i show up she doesn't really listen to what i have to say and starts bleaching. she has another client come in while i'm sitting which i thought was weird and it's like i'm an after thought the rest of the time i'm there. she offers a trim i say yeah and she legit cut half of my hair. you could visibly see the length difference (even my next stylist told me so lol). she then offered to curl and u said yes and she only curled the top layer of my hair (she was very clearly trying to rush me out). honestly did not feel welcome in the salon and the stylist seemed to only care about what plans she had after. also she gave me really bad early 2000's highlights which wasn't what i wanted at all. overall not a great experience i wish i remembered the stylists name.

I needed a haircut about a month and half ago, maybe two months, so I Yelped salons and found Prima. Erin came highly recommended and I don't doubt her abilities because there are some positive reviews on here, but she may have been having an off-day when I came in. She was super nice but I can't give a star for that because that's not what this is about. I have long, straight hair and I wanted to keep my length mostly but add some shape to it or at least trim my bangs and have the front pieces blended. It looked great when I left the salon because she curled it and everything and it seemed fine. I was in and out in under 15-20 minutes. No joke. That's from the second that I parked my car until I drove away. The next day came around and my boyfriend noticed my hair was cut straight across in some places and was just oddly uneven. Imagine a staircase. Yikes. I noticed my bangs were also cut straight across at the bottom and it looked ridiculously choppy when I tried to style it. Another set of stairs. Yikes. I knew the first few days or even a week may be wonky. The hair can sometimes grow into the cut and look normal again. That never happened. It was already too late to go back and complain. I thought it was weird that the haircut was such a short duration but I tried to have some confidence; I regret not speaking up or coming back. So I had a crap haircut for a while. Finally got a good one at another salon this week so I'm thankful I found my regular hair person elsewhere. I'm a college student so it's already a struggle to pay for luxuries like an expensive haircut that's not from Great Clips or a school salon. So I paid around 60-70 after tip to hate my hair for two months. It is tough for me to trust people with my hair. One of the reasons why I didn't go back was because I lost confidence in the salon. It's almost traumatizing, haha. So, no, I didn't give them a chance to fix it. I didn't want it fixed by them and I know they weren't going to offer a refund, so it was a moot point.

I followed Jennifer Gilchrist to Prima Salon. I would have followed her wherever she landed in the area, so this review is about both her and the salon. First ... Jen. She's been doing my hair for over a decade. I drive two hours to see her, sometimes longer in traffic. You know how hard it is to find a stylist you trust, right? Well trust me, she's worth it. It's not because my hair is my crowning glory. It's because it's my frustration! It's thin and fine and doesn't do much of anything. Jen cuts it in a way that makes the most of it, is easy to style, and stays shaped as it's supposed to be over the weeks between cuts ... which is also important to me, since I travel a lot for work. Also, we all know that sitting in that chair can be boring. But Jen is easy to talk to, whether about her interesting adventures or whatever's going on in your own life. Now ... about the salon. It's convenient, there's plenty of parking, it's friendly. Plenty of current magazines when you're under the dryer for color! (No grody, disintegrating ones.) Friendly and quiet vibe. I hope that this is a good move for Jen -- with some nice new clients to add to her roster (just not toooo many -- save a Saturday spot or two for me, please!). If you're looking for a new stylist in the area, in a convenient location, I recommend Jennifer Gilchrist at Prima Salon.

Firs time coming to this salon and I was super nervous because it was my first time there and it was going to be a change of hair for me. I made the appointment the same day and I was able to come in in the afternoon. The salon is very nice looking and was easy enough to get to. My appointment was with Heather and there was no wait time at all from check in to my haircut. Heather was amazing! Made me feels super comfortable and was really good about talking me through the whole process. I went in for a fade and was really hesitant about it but Heather did a fantastic job and even gave me new ideas with what to do with my hair. The whole experience was awesome and I can't wait to try new things. Totally recommended well worth it! I love my haircut perfect for the summer weather!
