The BEST in Abilene. I don't live there anymore, but if I were in town and needed anything this would be the place I'd go. I had short hair when I lived there and I got the cutest chic cuts here. From both stylists! Know that if for some reason whoever you normally go to can't see you, that you will be in good hands with the other. I wish I had tried color here, I'm sure it's amazing. I've had so much trouble finding someone decent in Dallas I'm surprised I didn't give up and make the drive every six weeks like the other reviewer. Luckily I finally found someone with a brain. Point is this place is the best. If it's more expensive than you'd like just make the splurge, IT WILL BE WORTH IT. Your hair is an investment and you get what you pay for. This place has experience. Plus, when it's done right the first time you'll save money in the long run.

I was recommended to get my color done and cut here by Wendy at Healthy Spa. She told me to see Toby and that if my cut was anything like hers, three months later while it was growing out I would still be getting complements. Now, I'm not known for getting to the salon on a regular basis so that sounded like the place that I had to go to! Toby started by trying to figure out what my goal was with my hair color and advising me on what he thought would work. Two hours later I had highlights and lowlights and a great cut that is even looking fabulous on these crazy humid days that we've been having (how are there humid days in West Texas??).

You know those cartoons of the poor soul crawling through the hot desert looking at the oasis mirage on the horizon? Well, Jacques & Vernay is an oasis and it's no mirage. It's a welcome respite from a cloistered, insular big little town that is an enclave for people who want to escape a real world that is not 100% white (but with enough minorities to get the yardwork, housework, and construction work done), heterosexual (at least publicly), Protestant (and mostly fundamentalist evangelical), Republican (right wing), pro-war, creationist. A town that loves W because everyone can spell his name. Then there's Jacques & Vernay, the only place in town that would welcome the Dixie Chicks. Besides that, they provide excellent beauty and spa services with interesting employees, relaxed atmosphere, and great strong coffee. Toby Vernay and Caroline Jacques are treasures. Toby gives me the very best haircut I've ever gotten anywhere. And he has the most interesting business card I've ever seen, and I've gotten thousands during my career.
