Hair World in Charlottesville, VA

Cathy was great! She fitted me in at last minute for a color and cut. I appreciate that she did that. I'm in town for a travel position so I didn't have anyone here. She did nice color and a nice cut. She was so nice and did a great job. Thank you !!

This hair salon is a rip off. I walked in this morning and asked for a hair cut. I was told by the stylist that it would cost me $22 and asked me if I wanted my hair washed and shampooed. I said no to shampoo so she just rinsed my hair. Once I was sitting and was getting ready to get my hair cut, she clarified that it would cost me $22.This was after I clarified how much hair I wanted to be cut. She cut 5 inches off my hair and layered it some. She knew that from the beginning but didn't say anything about the price going up due to the length of my hair. She made me believe that it would only cost $22. When she was done, I pointed out that the cut was uneven with the left side being longer than the right side. She gladly trimmed it so that it would be evenly cut. When I was ready to pay, she said $37 for everything including shampoo. I said, I thought you said $22 and she said well it includes everything. I said, I didn't even get a shampoo. She dropped the price to $33. I said, just go ahead and charge me $37 which included the tip. I walked out of the salon and felt very uneasy because I felt like she ripped me off. The sad part was that she didn't even do a half decent job, but I think what makes me upset is the fact that she lied to me. She should have told me from the beginning how much more she would charge. Instead, she told me that it would only cost me $22 after I told her exactly how much I wanted cut. The website looks like it's a beautiful salon but it's old and they don't even have the supplies to do a good job. This place is a rip off. For business people traveling to this area, don't be fooled by this place. They seem nice but they will rip you off.

This rating is for Hair World, and specifically for stylist Sheila Gardner. As to the facility, it is clean and well air conditioned and parking is plentiful. All the stylists are pleasant and friendly and prices are affordable. It's conveniently located across from the new mall/Trader Joe's. Sheila has styled my hair for over two years and has never disappointed. She is a skilled stylist and an experienced colorist. She really listens to me, makes good recommendations, and takes the time to figure out with me what I really want each time. When I think I want a change, I come prepared to talk it over with Sheila. She never minds the extra time and never rushes me, making sure we are on the same page before proceeding. She's always game to try something new, or go back to something I liked previously, too, never makes me feel bad for wanting to do that. If you are looking for someone to fix a really bad hair cut, please give Sheila a chance to help you. She straightened my hair out twice from awful cuts, where there was not a lot left to work with in both situations (the first time was when I met her, and then once was after I'd tried someone new because I didn't want to wait for her to return from leave... I can attest to the fact that she is creative with blending bad haircuts so they can grow out gracefully:) If you are looking for someone to collaborate with, who you can trust with your hair, I hope you give Sheila and Hair World a try.
