Essence Hair Studio in Salem, OR

For no reason that I can think of my hairstylist put me off twice and then didn't return my messages at all. While I gave her time, even asked if I had done something to upset her. No reply. And I don't like to leave bad reviews, so I emailed the salon owner. Explained what was going on. She didn't reply, either. I had one appt which I paid $200 and left a $22 tip. Everything went fine during the appointment, there were some clumps of bleach, but I just let that go. And this really made me feel bad. So, I am leaving a very negative review. Don't waste your time, here.

Not a satisfying experience. Ally was to do my haircut. She appeared tense and nervous, with no sense of humor. I brought a picture of the style I wanted and she said she could do it. She gave me a wash, then went upstairs to ask the owner to come give her some direction. I waited with wet hair until she showed up. The owner ended up doing a fast cut cos she had another customer who was waiting upstairs. She did the entire haircut and Ally just watched. The cut was not what I wanted and not close to the picture. No one said much of anything to me so I felt like I was unimportant and and got stuck with the rookie. I paid $55 for a hairstylist that didn't even cut my hair!  I won't go back and I won't recommend them to anyone.

I got a haircut from Ally yesterday. I communicated what I wanted and I had a picture. I wanted it cut short to the occipital bone and an undercut. I wanted it longer on top with a choppy cut. I wanted a side part.

I got short on top, longer on sides, cut at least an inch above my occipital bone and side hair did not blend to the back. She had the other girl help with some blending in the very back.

Needless to say I was very upset. She said she was sorry it didn't turn out the way "we" wanted. It's not we.
She very obviously did not know what she was doing.

It was 45$ for an extremely terrifying cut. I gave her a 50$ bill and she actually asked if I wanted my 5$ back! Seriously? Yeah I want it back.

I now look like a boy with some hair about an inch long on the crown.  I would have gotten a better cut at Supercuts for half the price.

If you value your look do not let Ally anywhere near your hair. Really doesn't know anything but maybe the very basics of hair cutting.

This studio responded to my request but took 3 days to schedule and I would understand if I didn't need the appointment for a while but I contacted them in a spur of the moment thing I had like 3 weeks to find someone this is a salon you'll definitely need a month or two advance if you are gonna book on yelp for the quality of hair I don't know but booking itself needs work

Love this place. Lisa was very informative about my hair as in what it needs and does not need. Well, she was totally right! Thank you lisa, I'll highly recommend your business to anyone any time!
