The Braid Lounge in Virginia Beach, VA

I had a very nice experience at Braid Lounge this past week. The staff was friendly, which I was anticipating from other reviews from various sites. I haven't had my hair braided since childhood and was feeling a bit anxious about getting it done. I don't like walking into a tense or unfriendly atmosphere, so I was pleased and at ease in the shop. The shop is clean and bright. The staff was mindful of my comfort. The best part is I came during a time that wasn't busy and had two stylists braiding my hair. I got box braids and they finished me up in just 3 HOURS! I was told 4.5 - 5 hours over the phone. My braids are medium size and braided to the bra strap. The service was not cheap, but I am pleased with the service, the final product, and glad I didn't spend my whole day in the shop. I would go back.

First I want to state that I have been to braid shops all over VA, NC, MD, and DC but based on the reviews I decided to go here while I was here on a trip. I wanted so bad to give this place 5 stars and recommend it to my friends. The good: Clean shop Friendly stylists Nice location Friendly receptionist The bad: 1. I arrived at 9AM when they opened and was finished at 4:30PM. I was told over the phone it would take 4-6 hours, I was okay with how long it took if it was done right. 2. The day after getting my hair done, I called to speak with the owner because I was told I would have to paid $20-40 extra to have it bra strap length. Okay? Cool. I paid it but the braids end past my shoulder. The owner politely agreed to fix the issue and braid it down to where I paid for. She braided some of the braids down to the length I paid for but most of the braids are still not braided to my bra strap. 3. If you want the normal length of Senegalese twists (past bra strap) you are going to be paying a good bit extra. I would have given this shop 5 stars if after the 2nd time I returned the issue was fixed correctly. I have just been to so many shops that give more quality work than I received here for cheaper but did not have the friendliness and professionalism that the Braid Lounge had.

Best braid service I've had to date. I was greeted with a smile and friendly "good morning." The staff was cordial, smiling, put together and professional. Everyone arrived in good spirits and it was just a good energy all around. The shop is updated, modern, clean. I went in for Senegalese twists and was in at 9 am, out by 1 pm! Awesome, professional service and my hair is on fleek for summer. This will definitely be my go to for my braiding needs going forward.

the braiding speaks for itself. they know how to braid however, I was very disappointed with how they handled my hair. first off I was never told that I needed to come to the lounge with my hair already washed and straighten. I have gotten my hair done plenty of times at other hair salons and they have always washed my hair and blow dried it out. I have natural curly hair. it felt as to me that they were unaware at how to handle my type of hair. I actually cried a few times while they were combing my hair literally out. I did receive numerous complements on my braid but after taking them out I noticed significant breakage especially in the back. this has never happened to me before! needless to say I will never return back here!!

I got box braids here on February 7. The customer service was great. Everyone smiled and said hello when I walked in and I was taken care of. My appointment was at 2:00. I walked in at about 1:50 and was in a chair by 1:57. I was given a chart that of the prices that correspond with the various lengths. I was then given an iPad to look at pictures to show the braid stylist what I wanted. Both of the braiders that were working on me were very nice and courteous. They offered me something to drink and peppermints. I was done at about 6:30. If at any point I felt that they were braiding too tightly, I would politely tell them and they adjusted. Yes, the stylists do speak to each other at times in a different language but it has never bothered me at any shop. It has also never bothered me if a stylist isn't talkative either. I definitely got what I paid for and I am pleased with the work. My braids felt a bit tight after I got them done, which is not uncommon. By the morning they felt fine. When it comes to the pricing of the braids, the cost depends on the length. The longer the braids, the higher the price. I got my braids at bra strap length. The cost was $220. The starting price (shortest length) starts at $180. I brought my own hair, but you can also use the hair that they already have at the shop.
