I have heard about this dude for years but it took COVID to get me to walk a few blocks and climb the stairway to paradise where he does his artful magic. Seriously, the place is so cool you'll find yourself dancing to the music as you navigate the stairs; slight turn and then there's Art, a sly-sweet smiling welcome, and the experience has begun. For the next hour-plus, he did it all--washed, colored, cut, snipped, styled, dried, brushed, combed--while I luxuriated in the breeze from the dramatic windows that lined the walls. The vibe is sensual, hypnotic, organic. Unlike so much that is overreaching to be cool these days, Works of Art is authentic. Art is the real deal. You wanna feel sexy when you walk down those stairs? You're on.

Today was my first time at Works of Art Salon and I enjoyed my experience. I came in for a layered cut with some texture because I have very thick hair. Jiah did a wonderful job layering my hair and getting rid of the weight.

Also the energy in this place is very peaceful and mellow. I felt comfortable and I'd be glad to come back again.

Throughout the time I was in the chair, Art was constantly making inappropriate comments about my body and my looks. I want to caution women: he is working alone at the moment, so it will be only you and him in the studio. The worst part is that in reading previous reviews, you will see he has had complaints about this before and is obviously not at all concerned that his comments make women uncomfortable, because he continues to do it. I left feeling very creeped out. Be careful, ladies.

All I will say is this... Arts hair cut was so good it held up for 6 months of quarantine! The guy is great and the salon is sanitized between each client which is great!

Ever since my first cut by Art three years ago, I've navigated a sea of complements from friends and family and sometimes complete strangers. The guy knows hair and loves what he does. It truly feels great to have a such a pro haircut (at a reasonable cost.)

Art's shop is funky and cool--with a relaxed vibe which reflects the man himself. I've always looked forward to my appointments not only because I know I'll be looking better soon, but because it's such a pleasure just to catch up with him. He's a real fixture in the Los Feliz/Silver Lake area.

So when I finally felt ready to get a haircut after our phase 1 lockdown lifted--I was happy to head his way. And I felt safe doing it. Art's place is breezy, with large wall-sized windows. And one-customer at a time with masks mandatory. Make an appointment. You won't be sorry.
