The Way Station Saloon and Eatery in Mauston, WI

Awesome food! You can't go wrong ordering the homemade hash or biscuits and gravy. The employees are friendly and fun. The meal raffle is a great time with the locals!

The bar manager is a piece of work. Been coming here since I was small, a regular you could say. Friday night trying to order food and walked back to the kitchen to get it because she was too busy taking shots and smoking cigs. She has the personality of a wet towel and just cares about getting free drinks behind the bar.

If it was possible to give this place a minus five star, I would. Way Station is the WORST place I have ever had the misfortune to visit. I get that it isn't a Michelin Star restaurant, but there is no excuse for abhorrent customer service! Not only was half my order left off the plate, but it was then brought back to me with barely cooked raw french fries and cold fish. As it was evident that the waitress was busy, I decided to just deal with the coldness of my food. I had one bite of my fish, and it was horrible. It tasted like ammonia, and was obviously far from fresh. Our waitress came back and asked how everything was (as politely as I could) , I informed her what was wrong. She immediately got an attitude with me and said "noone has ever said that about our fish before" and walked away, not returning until she brought our check. She then said that she was not going to give me my food for free, while looking at my still untouched plate, and informed us that I was charged for the Cod dinner instead of the Walleye (which a replacement for was never offered, nor given) I tried again to reason with her and said that I appreciated it, but I would have liked the replacement cod dinner. She snapped "well, we're out" and walked off. I have never been treated to such a display in my life. I would not recommend that place to my worst enemy..

I herd from a friend that this place had good food. My wife and i have eaten here several times now. We have ordered both the fish and the burgers and everything we have ordered was good . All the staff are friendly I have nothing bad to say about this place .

I wanted to like this place more. It has the allure of the small, neighborhood restaurant. We stopped in for breakfast and walked right back out - you could smell the bathrooms as soon as you walked in the door (bad sewage). The food was okay but due to hygienic reasons I do not see myself returning.
